Overview

The Hunter Douglas Platinum™ Technology Remote Control is a versatile device designed to operate various Hunter Douglas window covering systems, including PowerRise®, PowerGlide®, PowerTilt™, and hard-wired systems. This remote control utilizes both infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF) signals, offering flexible and optimal performance for controlling your window coverings.

Function Description

The primary function of the remote control is to provide convenient operation of Hunter Douglas motorized window coverings. It allows users to raise, lower, tilt, or traverse their window coverings individually or in groups. The remote features a channel selector, group buttons, and an up/down button to facilitate these operations.

Usage Features

Getting Started:

To begin using the remote, you first need to power it up. This involves removing the battery compartment cover on the back of the remote and inserting two AAA alkaline batteries as diagrammed inside the compartment. After inserting the batteries, a crucial step is to perform a master reset. Use a paper clip to press and quickly release the MASTER RESET button, which is located next to the batteries. Once this is done, replace the battery compartment cover, and the remote is ready for use.

Point-and-Press Operation (IR Mode):

For PowerRise® and PowerTilt™ operating systems, the remote functions in a "point-and-press" manner. To operate these window coverings, you must point the remote directly at the receiver eye. This receiver eye can be either built into the headrail of the window covering or located on a separate satellite eye. Once pointed, simply press the UP or DOWN button on the remote to operate the window covering.

For PowerGlide® operating systems, the point-and-press method also applies. Point the remote at the satellite eye. PowerGlide® systems offer both tilt and traverse functions. To tilt the vanes, move the channel switch to the left position (channel 1) and then use the UP/DOWN buttons. To traverse the window covering, move the channel switch to the right position (channel 2) and then use the UP/DOWN buttons.

Programming Groups (RF Mode):

The remote allows you to program window coverings into specific groups, enabling simultaneous control of multiple units. Before programming, it's recommended to partially lower or tilt the window covering you intend to program.

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Use a paper clip to press and quickly release the PROGRAM button located on the back of the remote control. The indicator light at the top of the remote will blink green for approximately 30 seconds, indicating that it is in programming mode.
  2. Select Group Number: While the indicator light is blinking green, press the desired GROUP number button (1, 2, 3, or 4) on the remote to which you want to add the window covering.
  3. Add Window Covering: Point the remote at the receiver eye of the window covering (either built into the headrail or on a satellite eye) and press the UP button. The window covering will briefly raise or "jog" to confirm that it has been successfully programmed into that group on the remote control. You can repeat these steps to program other window coverings into the same or different groups.

Operating Groups (RF Mode):

Once window coverings are programmed into groups, you can operate them using the group buttons.

  1. Select Group: Press the GROUP number button (1, 2, 3, or 4) corresponding to the window covering(s) you wish to operate.
  2. Operate: Press the UP or DOWN button to operate the window covering(s) programmed to that group. In RF mode, the remote does not need to be pointed directly at the receiver eye to operate the window covering(s), offering greater flexibility.
  3. Operate All Groups: To operate all four groups of window coverings simultaneously, press the ALL button before pressing either the UP or DOWN button.

Removing Window Coverings from a Group:

If you need to remove a window covering from a programmed group:

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Partially lower or tilt the window covering(s). Use a paper clip to press and quickly release the PROGRAM button on the back of the remote control. The indicator light will blink green for about 30 seconds.
  2. Select Group Number: While the light is blinking green, press the GROUP number button from which you are removing the window covering.
  3. Remove Window Covering: Point the remote at the receiver eye of the window covering and press the DOWN button. The unit will lower or "jog" to confirm that it has been removed from the group.

Master Reset for All Groups:

To erase all programmed groups from the remote control, use a paper clip to press and quickly release the MASTER RESET button located next to the batteries. This will clear all group programming. Remember to replace the battery compartment cover afterward.

Notes on Programming:

  • Entering Programming Mode: The programming mode is activated by pressing and quickly releasing the PROGRAM button. The blinking green indicator light signifies that the remote is in programming mode, which lasts for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Window Covering Operation During Programming: Window coverings cannot be operated while the remote is in programming mode (i.e., when the indicator light is blinking green).
  • Exiting Programming Mode: To exit programming mode before it times out, press and quickly release the PROGRAM button a second time. The indicator light will stop blinking green, and the remote will be ready for normal operation.

Maintenance Features

The primary maintenance feature involves battery replacement. The remote uses two AAA alkaline batteries. When the batteries are low, the remote's performance may be affected. Regular replacement of batteries ensures consistent and reliable operation. The master reset function, while primarily for programming, can also be considered a maintenance feature as it allows for a clean slate if programming issues arise.
