64 IBM Power 750 and 760 Technical Overview and Introduction
2.6.1 Blind swap cassettes
The Power 750 and Power 760 uses fourth-generation blind swap cassettes to manage the
installation and removal of adapters. This mechanism requires an interposer card that allows
the PCIe adapters to plug in vertically to the system, allows more airflow through the cassette,
and provides more room under the PCIe cards to accommodate the GX++ multifunctional
host bridge chip heat-sink height. Cassettes can be installed and removed without removing
the Power 750 and Power 760 server from the rack.
2.6.2 Integrated multifunction card
Each Power 750 and Power 760 server is equipped with an integrated multifunction card. This
card provides two USB ports, one serial port, and four Ethernet connectors for the system
and does not require a PCIe slot. All connectors are on the rear bulkhead of the system; one
integrated multifunction card can be placed in an individual system.
The serial port connector is a standard 9-pin male D-shell, and it supports the RS232
interface. If the server is managed by an HMC, this serial port is always controlled by the
operating system, and therefore is available in any system configuration. It is driven by the
integrated PLX Serial chip, and it supports any serial device that has an operating system
device driver. The FSP virtual console will be on the HMC.
When ordering a Power 750 or Power 760, you may select a integrated multifunction card
from the following options:
1 Gb Ethernet (RJ45) and 10 Gb copper SFP+
This card (FC 1768, CCIN 2BF3) provides four Ethernet connections: Two 1 Gb (RJ45) and
two 10 Gb Small Form-factor Pluggable+ (SFP+) active copper twinax. The RJ45 ports
support up to 100 m cabling distance using Cat 5e cable. The 10 Gb copper SFP+ twinax
ports support up to 5 m cabling distances and active copper twinax cables are available in
length of 1 m (FC EN01), 3 m (FC EN02), or 5 m (FC EN03).
1 Gb Ethernet (RJ45) and 10 Gb SR optical
This card (FC 1769, CCIN 2BF4) provides four Ethernet connections: Two 1 Gb (RJ45) and
two 10 Gb (Small Form-factor Pluggable + (SFP+) SR optical). The RJ45 ports support up to
100 m cabling distance using Cat 5e cable. The optical ports only support the 850 Nm optic
cable (multi mode cable) and support up to 300 m cabling distances.
10 Gb Ethernet (RJ45) and 10 Gb copper twinax
This card (FC EN10, CCIN 2C4C) provides four Ethernet connections: Two RJ45 ports
(10 Gb/1 Gb/100 Mb) and two active copper twinax ports (10 Gb). The two RJ45 ports default
to auto negotiate the highest speed either 10 Gb (10 GBaseT), 1 Gb (1000 BaseT), or

Requirement: The Power 750 can be managed either by IVM or an HMC. The Power 760
requires management by an HMC.
Hint: The SFP+ twinax copper is not IBM AS/400® 5250 twinax or CX4 or 10 GBASE-T.
