railsDONOTfallunderanyweightlimitations.
Bedrailscanbedeformedorbrokenifexcessive
sidepressureisexertedonthebedrails.These
bedrailsareusedforthepurposeofpreventing
anindividualfrominadvertentlyrollingoutof
bed.Thebedrailsarenotintendednormaybe
usedforrestraintpurposes.Ifanindividualis
capableofinjuringhimself/herself,aphysician
orahealthcareprofessionalshouldbeconsulted
foralternativemeansofsaferestraint.
–Afterraising/loweringthehead/footendofthe
electricbed,checkthedistancebetweenthe
bottomofthebedrailandthemattress.If
thereisexcessivedistancebetweenthebottom
ofthebedrailandthemattressinwhich
individualsmaybecomeentangled,adjustthe
heightofthebedrail(ifapplicable),orprovide
alternativemeansofpatientprotection.
–DONOTusethesiderailsaspushhandlesfor
movingtheelectricbed.
–Replacementmattressesandbedsiderails
withdimensionsdifferentfromtheoriginal
equipmentsuppliedorspeciedbythebed
framemanufacturerarenotinterchangeable.
Variationsinbedsideraildesign,widthand
thicknessorrmnessofthemattresscould
cause/contributetoentrapment.

Conditionssuchasrestlessness,mental
deteriorationanddementiaorseizuredisorders
(uncontrolledbodymovement),sleeping
problems,andincontinencecansignicantly
impactapatient'sriskofentrapment.Pediatric
patientsorpatientswithsmallbodysizemayalso
haveanincreasedriskofentrapment.
–Monitorpatientswiththeseconditions
frequently.
–Placemattressdeckintheatpositionwhen
leftunattended.
