4.5. Star Identifying Function
The 8408 hand controller has a star identifying function. After Polar Alignment and Set Up Time
and Site, slew the telescope to an bright star, manually or using GOTO. Press ? button to identify the star
name telescope is pointing to, as well as nearby bright stars if there are any.
4.6. Gear Tension Adjustment
Set both Gear Switches to LOCK positions after balancing the mount. Fully screw in the Tension
Adjuster. If the mount motor has “grinding” sound (which is not harmful) while slewing, the Tension Adjuster
is too tight. Release 1/8 to 1/4 turn and check it again. If there is excess play in either RA or DEC axis, or
even the gear is skipping, the gear and worm is not meshed properly. Turn the Tension Adjuster more
clockwise. You may need to readjust the Tension Adjuster for different payload.
4.7. GOTO and Tracking Position Memorization
The CEM25 mount can memorize its R.A. and DEC positions if the mount loses its power by
accident, even during high speed slewing. Just do a Select and Slew to the same star when the power is
lost after the power is back. The mount will continue to track the star.
4.8. Turn Off the Mount
When you have finished your observation, just simply turn the mount power off and disassemble the
mount and tripod. If the mount is set up on a pier or inside an observatory, you can return the mount to Zero
Position. This will ensure that there is no need for you to perform the initial setup again when you power up
the mount subsequently, if the mount is not moved. To return the mount to its Zero Position, press the
MENU => “Zero Position” => “Goto Zero Position” and press ENTER. Once the telescope returns to
Zero Position turn the power off.
