10.5 Engine Runs Too Hot - Oil Temperature Above 110
o
C (230
o
F)
Too much oil in crankcase
Check oil level & adjust if necessary
Check oil level & add oil if necessary
Oil change, use specified oil
Common reason: worn or sticking piston rings, complete
engine overhaul necessary
If metallic particles are present in oil, complete engine
overhaul necessary
Faulty oil temperature gauge
Faulty gauge, sender or connection
Check gauge & sender – replace with known good items
if possible.
Reverse polarity between gauge and sender & re-test.
Verify original reading using a second thermometer –
such as a hand-held infrared thermometer.
Cold junction temperature
The standard gauges used in Jabiru Aircraft assume that
the cold junction (where the thick thermocouple wire
connects to the standard wire leading to the instrument)
is at around 25°C. Ensure the junction is not exposed to
excessively hot or cold air for best results.
10.7 Unsatisfactory Power Output
Check ignition circuits; check wiring and pick-ups;
replace ignition units.
Too much oil in crankcase
Check oil level & adjust if necessary
Fuel not according to specifications
Re-fuel with specified fuel
Incorrect throttle adjustment
Re-adjust throttle fitting
Check and tighten all connections, check carby sockets.
Carburettor diaphragm damage
Hydraulic Lifter stuck / collapsed
Check RPM with calibrated gauge (such as hand-held
optical gauge).
Carburettor heat not turning off
Check / adjust carburettor heat mechanism
Choke not turning fully off
Check / adjust choke mechanism.
Unsatisfactory induction system
Check induction system for sharp edges, rough corners
etc. Refer to engine installation manual.
