Baste (or fuse with iron-on fabric joiner) applique pieces on the
fabric. Stitch around the applique making sure the needle falls
along the outer edge of the applique.
When sewing corners, lower the needle down into the fabric. Raise
the presser foot and pivot fabric to the right or left.
For a delicate appearance on fabric such as chiffon, use a
single layer with a tear-away backing, if necessary.
