PLUMBING
INSTRUCTIONS
FOR
SANITUING
PQTABLE
WATER
SYSTEMS
OF
RECREATllONAL
VEHICLES
To assure complete sanitation of your potable water system, it is
reconmended that
the
following procedures be followed on a new
system, one that has not been used for a period of time, or one that
may
have become contaminated:
1.
Prepare
a
chlorine solution using one gallon of water and
1/4
cup
of
ChIorox or Purex household bleach
(5%
sodium hypochlorite
solution). Pour one gallon of solution into tank for
15
gallons
of
tank capacity.
2.
Complete
filling of tank with fresh water.
Open
each
faucet and
drain
cock
until
all
air has been released from the pipes and entire
system is
filled.
3.
Allow
to stand for three hours.
4.
Drain and flush with potable fresh water.
5.
To
remove
any
excessive chlorine taste or odor
which
might
remain, prepare a solution of one quart vinegar to
five
gallons
water and allow this solution to agitate
in
tank for several days by
vehicle motion,
6.
Drain tank and again flush
with
potable water.
INSTRUCTIONS
FOR
FILLING
WATER
SUPPLY
TANK
1.
Sanitize according
to
previously stated method.
2.
Close drain valve in supply tank, in hot water heater, and any in
water lines.
3.
Use
fresh
water hose and insert into fill spout. Fill until full
or
to
desired level.
4.
VERY
IMPORTANT:
Before turning on water pump, open kitchen
and
bathroom faucets.
This
will allow air to escape water lines and
hot water heater
as
water is
being
pumped
through lines.
5.
Turn pump on and allow several seconds for pump
to
prime itself.
5.
Wait for water heater to fill
first
and then water lines will
fill.
The
water heater must not
be
in operation unless it
is
filled with water.
7.
When air ceases to bubble out of faucets, turn off faucets.
8.
Your demand system is now ready for use.
9.
Refill your supply tank to replenish water used in filling water
heater
and
water lines.
10.
BE
SURE
to turn
off
pump when traveling
or
when trailer is not
in
use.
