Trouble Probable Cause Remedy
Auger sharpened incorrectly. Resharpen auger. See page 16.
Chuck jaws not tight. Tighten chuck jaws.
Bent auger. Replace auger.
Auger wanders.
Auger or chuck not installed properly. Reinstall the chuck or auger properly.
Wood splinters on the
underside.
No backing board used for through
cutting.
Place a scrap board underneath the
workpiece to prevent splintering.
Workpiece not clamped properly,
pinching the auger.
Support or clamp workpiece firmly.
Excessive feed rate. Decrease feed rate.
Auger binds in
workpiece.
Chuck jaws not tight. Tighten chuck jaws.
