4.2 Transferring in and out
4.2.1 Transferring in
1. Engage both wheel locks.
2. Flip up the footplates.
3. The user lowers his or her body into the seat using the armrests for support.
4. Flip the footplates back down, so that the user can place his or her feet on them.
5. Release both wheel locks.
CAUTION
Always ensure that the front casters are in line with the rear wheels, the front caster
forks are pointing forwards, and the back of the wheelchair is secure either against a
wall or firmly held by an attendant.
4.2.2 Transferring out
1. Make sure that the wheelchair is near your final destination.
2. Move the wheelchair back sufficiently to ensure that the front casters are pointing
forward, i.e. in line with the rear wheels and usually with the front caster forks
pointing forward. Ensure that, where possible, the rear of the wheelchair is
against a wall or, if not, it must be firmly held by an attendant.
3. Engage both wheel locks. The wheel lock levers must be pushed to lock. Besides,
they can be pulled and flipped back to the fixed position for easy transferring.
