Drive shaft oil seals
Oilretainer 1islocatedinthegearcoveronthetimingsidewhilere-
tainer2 islocatedinthecrankcaseontheywheelside.
Arrowsapointtothecrankshaftdirectionofrotation.
Press them into their seats by exerting uniform pressure throughout
theirfrontsurface.
Drive shaft, lubrication ducts, bore thread on ywheel side and p.t.o.
RemoveplugCandcheckthatthelubricationductisperfectlyclean.
Closewithanewplugcheckingforpropersealing.
A =M14x1.5(turncounterclockwise)
B =M8x1.25(withstandardshaft)
Whenthecrankpinandmainjournalareground,valuesR and

mustbeobtainedagaintopreventthedriveshaftfrombre-
aking.

Use an outside micrometer for the main journal and an inside bore
gaugeforthegearcoverbearingonthetimingside.

A warpedoilretainermay allow theintroductionofair into the
enginethuscausingcrankcaseventilationproblems.
UsegenuineoilretainerswiththeKOHLERlogo(see B).
