2 System
The DSS-1 can hold a maximum of 16 multisounds in
wave memory at one time. It also holds 32 programs
in program memory. The currently selected pro
gram is transferred to the program output buffer to
determine which multisounds are to be used and
how the various parameters are going to affect the
sound.
One set of these multisounds and programs is called
a system.'.

(32 Programs)
A system includes the multisounds in wave j
memory and the 32 programs that call those :
multisounds.
The system format is employed because it keeps the When you save a system, you are putting these multi-
multisounds together with the programs that use sounds and programs onto a disk,
them. You can think of each system as one com
plete synthesizer system. You can save systems to
disk and then load them back to internal memory {us
ing the get system" function) without loosing the
dependent relationship between the programs and
the muftisounds. Needless to say, this kind of internal
order is essential in a synthesizer having the capacity
of the D SS-1. If muftisounds and programs where not
organized as systems then you would have to make
sure that you had loaded the correct multisounds for
the programs that you were going to use. If you had
them on different disks, the problem would be com
pounded.
