SyncZone
TheSyncZoneparameterdetermineswhichzoneariffwillsyncto.Youcanchoosetosynctoa
rifforarpeggioinaspecificzonebysettingSyncZonetoRiff1–16orArp1‐16,andthecurrent
riffwillalwayssynctotherifforarpeggio
inthesetzone.Forexample,ifyouhaveadrumriff
inzone1andabassriffinzone2,youmayalwayswantthebassriffinzone2tosynctothe
drumriffinzone1.Inthiscaseyouwouldsetthebassriff
SyncZonetoRiff1.
Youmaywanttohavealittlemorefreedomandnotbetiedtothedrumriffas themain
“timekeeper.”Maybeyouwanttostartwiththebassriffandhavethedrumriffstartlater.In
thiscaseyouwouldsetSyncZonetoFirstRiff.Av.With
thissetting,theriffwilllookforthefirst
availablerifftosyncto.Soifboththedrumriffandthebassriffhavethisparametersetto
FirstRiff.Av.,theriffthatisstartedfirstwillbethemaster.Ifthebassriffstartsfirst,thedrum
riffwill
seethatasthefirstavailablerifftosynctoandwilldoso.Ifthedrumriffisstartedfirst,
thebassriffwillseethatasthefirstavailablerifftosynctoandwilldoso.This canbevery
handyifyouhavemultipleriffsand
wanttodosomeliveremixing;youcouldhavethedrums
dropout,and—aslongisthereisariffplaying—theywillsyncbackupwhentriggeredagain.
YoucanalsochooseFirstArp.Av.,whichbehavesthesamewayasFirstRiff.Av.,butmakesyour
rifflookforthefirstavailablearpeggiator
tosyncto.AsettingofMainSeq.willsynctheriffto
thesongcurrentlyloadedinSongmode.Youcan selectasonginSongmode,thenplayitfrom
setupmodewiththefrontpanelPlay/Pausebutton.(Doingthistemporarilyreplacestheprograms
inyoursetup’szones
withtheprogramusedforeachchannelinthesong,soit’sbesttomakeasetupthat
usesthesameprogramsasyoursongonthesameMIDIchannels.Ifyouplanonsyncingriffswitha
song,itmaybeeasiertostartbycreatingasetup,thenrecording

SyncType
TheSyncTypeparameterallowsyoutochoosehowyourriffwillsynctootherriffs,
arpeggiators,
andSongs(dependingonyoursettingsmadefortheSyncZoneparameter.)With
SyncType settoNone,yourriffwillstartplayingassoonasitistriggered.Itwillnotsyncto
anything.WithSyncTypesettoDownBeat,ifthereisalreadysomethingplayingtosyncto,the
currentriff
willwaitforthedownbeatofthenextmeasurebeforestarting;so,youcantriggerthe
rifftostartaheadoftime,andhaveitstartinsyncatthedownbeatofthenextmeasure.If
Syncingtoanarpeggiator,seeNumBeats on page 3‐15fordetailsonchangingwhenan
arpeggiator’s
downbeatwilloccur.WithSyncTypesettoAnyBeat,ifthereisalreadyasomethingplayingto
syncto,theriffwillwaitonlyuntilthenextbeat.Dependingonwhenyoutriggertheriff,itwill
syncup,butitmaybeonanupbeatoradownbeat.
With
SyncType settoDownBeatWait,theriffwillwaitforthedown beatofthenextmeasureto
start.ThedifferencefromDownBeatisthatifthereisnothingplayingtosyncto,theriffwillnot
start.Thiscanbeusefulifyouwanttostartmultipleriffssyncedtoone
riff.Youcouldhavea
bassriffsettoDownBeatWait,forinstance,andtriggertheriffwhilenootherriffsarerunning.
Assoonasyoustartanotherriff,thebassriffwillstartplayingaswell(providedthatitissetto
synctoanotherriffortothe
firstavailableriff.)Ifanotherriffisa lreadyrunning,
DownBeatWaitbehavesjustlikeDownBeat.
