Reinstallingsoftwareprograms
Ifasoftwareprogramyouinstalledonyourcomputerisnotworkingcorrectly,youmightneedtoremove
andreinstallit.Reinstallingoverwritestheexistingprogramsfilesandusuallyfixesanyproblemsthat
youmighthavehadwiththatprogram.
Toremoveaprograminyoursystem,seeMicrosoftWindowshelpsystemfordetailedinformation.
Toreinstalltheprogram,dooneofthefollowing:

providedwiththeprogramtoseeifyourprogramhasspecialinstallationinstructions.
Toreinstallmostcommerciallyavailableprogramsinyoursystem,seeMicrosoftWindowshelpsystem
formoreinformation.
ToreinstallselectedapplicationprogramsthatcamepreinstalledfromLenovo,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.UseWindowsExplorerorComputertodisplaythedirectorystructureofyourharddiskdrive.
3.GototheC:\SWTOOLSdirectory.
4.OpentheAPPSfolder.WithintheAPPSfolder,thereareseveralsubfoldersnamedforvarious
applicationsinstalledinyourcomputer.
5.Opentheappropriateapplicationsubfolder.
6.Intheapplicationsubfolder,lookforaSETUP .EXEfileorotherappropriateEXEfilesforsetup.
Double-clickthefileandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheinstallation.
Reinstallingdevicedrivers
Toreinstalladevicedriverforanoptionyouinstalled,refertothedocumentationthatcomeswiththeoption.
Whenyoureinstalldevicedrivers,youarechangingthecurrentconfigurationofyourcomputer.Reinstall
devicedriversonlywhenitisnecessarytocorrectaproblemwithyourcomputer.

Solvingrecoveryproblems
IfyouareunabletoaccesstheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceortheWindowsenvironment,doone
ofthefollowing:

Userecoverymediaifallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailedandyouneedtorestoretheharddisk
drivetothefactorydefaultsettings.See“Creatingandusingrecoverymedia”onpage79.
Note:IfyouareunabletoaccesstheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceortheWindowsenvironmentfrom
arescuemediumorrecoverymedia,youmightnothavetherescuedevice(aninternalharddiskdrive,a
disc,aUSBharddiskdrive,orotherexternaldevices)setasthefirstbootdeviceinthestartupdevice
sequence.Youmustfirstmakesurethatyourrescuedeviceissetasthefirstbootdeviceinthestartup
devicesequenceintheSetupUtilityprogram.See“Selectingastartupdevice”onpage91fordetailed
