Toremoveauserharddiskpasswordthathasbeenforgotten,whenthesupervisorpasswordandthemaster
harddiskpasswordareknown,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,immediatelypressF1toentertheThinkPadSetupprogram.
3.SelectSecurity.
4.SelectPassword.
5.SelectHard-diskxpassword,wherexistheletteroftheharddiskdrive.Apop-upwindowopens.
6.SelectMasterHDP,whereHDPstandsforharddiskpassword.
7.TypethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Then,leavetheEnter
NewPasswordeldblank,andpressEntertwice.
8.PressF10tosavechangesandexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.Theuserharddiskpasswordandthe
masterharddiskpasswordhavebeenremoved.
Powermanagement
Toreducepowerconsumption,thecomputerhasthreepowermanagementmodes:screenblank,sleep
(standbyinWindowsXP),andhibernation.
Screenblankmode
Toputthecomputerintoscreenblankmode,doasfollows:
1.Right-clickthePowerManagerBatteryGaugeinthetaskbar.
2.SelectPoweroffdisplay(keepcurrentpowerplan)(inWindowsXP ,keepcurrentpowerscheme).
Toendscreenblankmodeandresumenormaloperation,pressanykey.
Sleep(standby)mode
Whenthecomputerenterssleep(standby)mode,thefollowingeventsoccurinadditiontowhatoccurs
inscreenblankmode:
•TheLCDispoweredoff.
•Theharddiskdriveispoweredoff.
•TheCPUstops.
Ifa“suspendtime”hasbeensetonthetimer,andtheuserdoesnotdoanyoperationwiththekeyboard,the
TrackPoint,theharddisk,theparallelconnector,orthediskettedrivewithinthattime,thecomputergoes
intosleep(standby)modeautomatically.
Note:Evenifyoudonotsetthelow-batteryalarm,thechargeindicatornotiesyouwhenthebatteryislow,
andthenthecomputerentersthepower-savingmodeautomatically.
Tocausethecomputertoreturnfromsleep(standby)modeandresumeoperation,dooneofthefollowing:
•PresstheFnkey.
•OpentheLCDcover.
•Turnonthepowerswitch.
Also,ineitherofthefollowingevents,thecomputerautomaticallyreturnsfromsleep(standby)modeand
resumesoperation:
•Theringindicator(RI)issignaledbyaserialdeviceoraPCCarddevice.
•Thetimesetontheresumetimerelapses.
