Software and SmartPort cable Setup
Note: All ApexRemote
instruments must use the
SmartPort cable to modify
their Alarms and Alarm
thresholds. All of the
ApexRemote PoE must
use the SmartPort cable
to set their IP addresses.
The SmartPort cable
requires the Instrument
Setup Tool to perform
these actions.
1. Place the CD into the configuration computer’s CD/DVD drive and
close the tray. The CD/DVD drive should automatically start up
and, momentarily, the Install menu will appear. Choose the soft-
ware installation from the menu. When the install is complete, the
menu will return.
2. Choose to install the Serial USB cable FTDI drivers. The drivers
will install via a command window then return the computer to the
menu.
3. Refer to Figure 3-1 and insert the SmartPort cable’s USB
connector into a USB port on the computer. The computer should
acknowledge the cable and report that it has found a new device, a
Serial USB cable, and is installing its drivers. A COM port will be
assigned to the cable.

NOTE: ALL ApexRemote instruments require the
SmartPort cable to set or change the Alarms and Alarm
Thresholds. Changes to MODBUS registers are the only
other way to make these changes. Once changes are
made, Update the ApexRemote to save settings. The
cable must be removed before
standard power
connections are made to the instruments. If this
condition is not met, peripheral equipment and/or the
ApexRemote may be seriously damaged and their
respective warranties voided. Disconnect the cable
BEFORE connecting the ApexRemote to the instrument
network!
