2.2 Create a message
In this section you learn how to create and save a new message.
2.2.1 Message fields
A message can contain several parts. Each part is called a field. You can
put several different types of field into your message. For example:
• Text—a simple field that contains characters that do not change.
• Date and Time—used to print a Date field or a Time field.
• Sequential Number—prints a value that increases or decreases with
each printed message.
• Remote—a field that contains data that the printer receives from a
remote device. For example, a computer.
• Shift Code—a code that indicates different periods of the day or the
week.
• Prompted—a field that requires the user to enter or select message text
before a message is printed.
• Logo—used to print an image or pattern.
NOTE: 5900 only. You cannot create logo images on the printer, but
you can copy logo images in bitmap (.bmp) file format to the
printer from a USB memory stick (see How To Use the USB
Connection for more information).
• Text Sequence—a series of text strings that can change for each
message printed (7900 only).
This chapter shows you how to create a simple message that contains a
Text field. If you need a Date field or a Time field in your message, first
create the message by following the steps in this chapter. Then you can add
the Date field or Time field (see Chapter 4, ‘Insert a Date or Time’).
For information on how to add other types of field to your message, refer
to the How To guides for the printers.
