Overview

The Solera 3000 Series 12V Power Awning LED Lights is an aftermarket manual for a recreational vehicle (RV) awning system, designed to provide shade and shelter while incorporating integrated LED lighting. This system features an internal motor for smooth and steady operation, along with a pitch arm assembly that allows for rain dump and adjustable pitch settings, enhancing stability.

Function Description:

The Solera 3000 Series 12V Power Awning LED Lights system serves as an electrically operated awning for RVs, offering convenient extension and retraction. Its primary function is to provide shade and protection from the elements, enhancing the outdoor living space of an RV. The integrated LED lights offer illumination, extending the usability of the outdoor area into the evening. The pitch arm assembly is a key feature, allowing users to adjust the angle of the awning. This adjustability is crucial for managing rainwater runoff, preventing pooling on the fabric, and optimizing shade coverage. The system is designed for aftermarket installation, meaning it can be added to RVs that did not originally come equipped with this specific awning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: 12V DC, indicating it operates on the standard RV electrical system.
  • Motor: Internal motor for steady and controlled awning operation.
  • Breaker: Equipped with an internal 6A auto-reset breaker. If tripped, it resets automatically after approximately 30 seconds.
  • Wiring Recommendation: LCI recommends wiring the awning into a 15A circuit. All wiring should be 14 AWG or larger to ensure a minimum of 12V at the connection to the Lippert-supplied power cable.
  • Awning Rail Installation:
    • For pitched awnings: Minimum of 11 inches above doors or windows.
    • For flat awnings: Minimum of 4 inches above doors or windows.
    • The awning rail must be level and parallel with the floor line of the unit.
  • Awning Length: For awnings exceeding 21 feet in length, a center support must be installed.
  • Awning Speed: Approximately 27 seconds to extend and 35 seconds to retract on a fully-charged battery.
  • LED Light Options:
    • Fabled (Fabric LED): LED power wire runs from the light track down the drive arm, connecting to the unit's 12V DC power source.
    • LED Roll Tube: Power wire sewn into the hem of the awning fabric, connected to the LED light in the roll tube.
    • LED Light Rail: Mounts directly below the awning rail, with light wire routed through the support arm assembly.
  • Fuse Protection: An appropriate-size fuse is required to protect all wiring going to the LED lights, meeting or exceeding RVIA standards.
  • Manual Override: Features a manual override nut (7/16" socket required) for extending or retracting the awning in case of power loss or motor failure. Clockwise to extend, counterclockwise to retract.

Usage Features:

  • Motorized Operation: The awning extends and retracts with the press of a button (EXTEND/RETRACT switch), offering ease of use.
  • Adjustable Pitch: The pitch arm assembly allows for manual adjustment of the awning's angle. This is critical for:
    • Rain Dump: Lowering one side of the awning to facilitate water runoff, preventing pooling and potential damage.
    • Shade Optimization: Adjusting the pitch to maximize shade coverage based on sun position.
  • Locking Latch: Some support arms may be equipped with a locking latch to secure the awning in position.
  • 2-Position Pitch Arm (Optional): Some awnings feature a 2-position pitch arm that can be set in a pitch position or snapped into a straight position by pushing a release button and sliding a sleeve.
  • Integrated LED Lighting: Provides illumination for the outdoor area, enhancing usability during evening hours.
  • Manual Override: In the event of power failure or motor malfunction, the awning can be manually extended or retracted using a 7/16" socket, ensuring the awning can always be stowed or deployed.
  • Safety Considerations: The manual emphasizes the importance of retracting the awning during high winds, heavy rain, or extended periods away from the unit to prevent damage. It also warns against manually adjusting the pitch if water, snow, or debris has already accumulated on the fabric.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fabric Care:
    • Drying: If the awning is retracted while wet, it should be extended and allowed to dry as soon as conditions permit to prevent mildew formation and prolong fabric life.
    • Cleaning: Periodically clean vinyl or woven acrylic fabric using a mixture of 1/4 cup dish soap and 5 gallons of warm water. Apply liberally, retract the awning for 5 minutes to spread the mixture, then extend and hose off with fresh water. Repeat if necessary and allow to dry before retracting.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section addressing common issues such as:
    • Awning not opening/closing (checking travel locks, fuse, power to motor).
    • Awning pitch not staying in position (checking gas strut, pitch arm bolt tension, washer location).
    • Awning running slow (checking obstructions, fabric squareness, voltage).
    • Awning wobbling (checking support arm bolts, end caps, head shaft, wall mount, wear collar spacers).
    • Awning operating in reverse (checking wiring).
    • Awning rolling up backward (correcting fabric orientation).
    • Lights not working (checking resettable fuse, voltage to red wire).
  • Pitch Arm Fastener Adjustment: Instructions are provided for tightening the pitch arm bolt and nut if the pitch arm does not hold its position, ensuring proper tension without over-tightening.
  • Seal Wall Penetrations: Emphasizes the importance of sealing all fastener locations and wire penetrations to prevent water intrusion, crucial for the longevity of the RV structure.
  • Wire Cover Reinstallation: Instructions to reinstall all wire covers into the support arm assemblies after wiring to protect connections.
