Submerged Outboard
A submerged outboard will require service within a few hours by
an authorized dealer once the outboard is recovered from the
water. This immediate attention by a servicing dealer is
necessary once the engine is exposed to the atmosphere to
minimize internal corrosion damage to the engine.
Following are the emergency measures to be taken on the
submerged outboard.
1. Immediately take it out of the water and wash it with fresh
water to remove salt or dirt.
2. Remove the spark plugs and completely drain the water
from the engine by pulling the rewind starter several times.
3. Sufficiently inject genuine engine oil through the spark plug
hole and into the crankcase from the carburetor side. Pull
the rewind starter several times to circulate the oil
throughout the motor.
