11. Pull out shift linkage as far as it moves. “Jaws” will open, as shown.

IMPORTANT: As sterndrive is inserted into drive unit, entry of the bell housing shift
cable must be closely checked to make sure cable enters the “jaws” of shift linkage
assembly in the sterndrive.
