HeadWay Monitoring and Warning (HMW)
8.1. What is HMW?
The Mobileye C2-270 Headway Monitoring and Warning monitors the driving distance
from the vehicle in front of you (headway) and alerts you when the headway is less
than a pre-defined threshold. Headway is measured in seconds, and not physical
distance. The headway is the number of seconds it would take for your vehicle
to reach the current position of the vehicle ahead. Mobileye C2-270 continuously
calculates your headway and displays it numerically on the Display Unit. A two-
second headway, in clear weather, is usually considered a safe distance.
8.2. A Headway Warning is Generated When…
A headway warning is initiated when the headway value is less than a pre-defined
threshold. This value is configurable by the user.
8.3. HMW Visual Alert
The Headway Meter displays the Headway distance in seconds. As long as there is a
vehicle ahead of you in your lane, the Headway Meter’s displayed value is continuously
updated. If no headway value is displayed, the vehicle in front of you is more than
2.5 seconds away.
Headway Meter (in Seconds)
There are 2 HMW visual alerts, shown in the following illustration, issued according
to the proximity of the two vehicles:
Notice – A green car icon is displayed from the moment the system detects a vehicle
in front of your car and as long as the headway remains greater than 0.6 second.
Warning!A red car icon is displayed when headway is less than 0.6 seconds. This is
dangerous tailgating, and the distance between the two cars is perilous.
