The radial piston pumps have to be protected against dry-running through appropriate monitoring
and stopping activities. These monitoring units are not part of the radial piston pump.
All external parts of the radial piston pump are related to the Device Group II,
Category 2 GD. The interior is protected against the entrance of potentially explosive mixtures by
monitoring units, provided by the operator and is not related to any device group or category.
Danger of explosion
due to
dry running of the pump in hazardous locations
In case of dry running ignitable mixtures inside of the pump can occur in radial piston
pumps.
For safe operation:
Only operate the radial piston pumps in a safe and functional condition.
At least once per shift, check the pumps for damage visible from the outside and
defects such as leakage.
Report changes, including to the operating behavior, damage and defects to the
responsible department immediately. If necessary, stop the machine immediately
and secure it.
Monitoring the pump behavior during operation with appropriate monitoring
devices depending on the application and mounting position.
