NOTE:Donotfollowthetargetwith
thelaserifitmovesoutoftheviewoftheHUDreticle.Thiscan
giveimproperresults.Thelaserneedstoremainwithafixedaimandletthetargetstaybehindthe
reticleforproperspeedcalculations.Thebestshotsoccurwhenaimingthereticleatreflectiveareason
thetargetorlightercoloredsurfaces.Chromeplating,reflectivelicenseplatesandheadlightsofferthe
bestreturns.
NOTE:IftheDISPLAYLOCKBUTTONontheHOMEscreenhasbeenactivated,onlyonetargetmaybe
captured.Nofurthershotscanbefiredandnoadditionalreadingswillbecaptur eduntil
thelockis
clearedbypressingtheDISPLAYLOCKBUTTONagain,thedisplaylocktimesoutafter14minutesorthe
deviceispowereddown.Oncethelockisreleased,thelockedspeedwillnolongerbevisible.
6.3 POWERINGDOWNTHELASER
Whenyouarefinishedusingthelaser,simplypressandholdthepowerbuttononthedisplayforabout
threeseconds.Theunitwillbeginitsinternalshutdownsequenceandturnoff.
6.4 WHAT’SGOINGONBEHINDTHESCENES?
Whenthelaserisfired,manylaserlight pulsesgetemittedoutofthedevice.Astheyhitatargetand
reflectbacktowardthelaserandarereceived,aninternaltimingmechanismkeepstrackofhowlong
theytooktomakethejourney.Knowingthatthespeedoflightis
aconstantvalue,wecanderivethe
totaldistancetraveledbasedonthetime.Becausethisdistanceincludesthepathfromlasertotarget
tolaser,wesimplydividethetotaldistanceby twotodeterminethetargetdistancefromthelaser.As
additionalpulsesaretransmittedandreceived,an
internalcalculationwilldetermineboththespeed
anddirectionthetargetismoving.
6.5 RETRIEVINGSHOTDATA(WHAT’SINASHOT?)
Noteveryshotofthelaserwillreturnthesamedata.Dependingonhowthelaserisconfigured,
differentdatawillbereturned.
Inthenormaloperationalmode(Figure6),eachsuccessful lasershotshouldreturnthefollowing
information:
‐ Timeanddateoftheshot,
‐ Speedcalculatedforthe
target(ifaspeedisdetected),
‐ Unitsofmeasureforthespeed(mph,km/h,etc.),
‐ Directionthetargetwasmoving,
‐ Distancefromthelaseratwhichthetargetwascaptured,
‐ Correspondingdistanceunitsofmeasure.
