3. Oncetheauditoryvalidtonehassounded,releasethetrigger.
NOTE:Alwaysverifythelaserreticlealignmentanddistancemeasurementsarevalidbeforeusingthe
laser.ThesetestscanbefoundontheHOMEscreenbypressingtheUnitTestbutton.
NOTE:Donotfollowthetargetwith
thelaserifitmovesoutoftheviewoftheHUDreticle.Thiscan
giveimproperresults.Thelaserneedstoremainwithafixedaimandletthetargetstaybehindthe
reticleforproperspeedcalculations.Thebestshotsoccurwhenaimingthereticleatreflectiveareason
thetargetorlightercoloredsurfaces.Chromeplating,reflectivelicenseplatesandheadlightsofferthe
bestreturns.
NOTE:IftheDISPLAYLOCKBUTTONontheHOMEscreenhasbeenactivated,onlyonetargetmaybe
captured.Nofurthershotscanbefiredandnoadditionalreadingswillbecaptur eduntil
thelockis
clearedbypressingtheDISPLAYLOCKBUTTONagain,thedisplaylocktimesoutafter14minutesorthe
deviceispowereddown.Oncethelockisreleased,thelockedspeedwillnolongerbevisible.
6.3 POWERINGDOWNTHELASER
Whenyouarefinishedusingthelaser,simplypressandholdthepowerbuttononthedisplayforabout
threeseconds.Theunitwillbeginitsinternalshutdownsequenceandturnoff.
6.4 WHATSGOINGONBEHINDTHESCENES?
Whenthelaserisfired,manylaserlight pulsesgetemittedoutofthedevice.Astheyhitatargetand
reflectbacktowardthelaserandarereceived,aninternaltimingmechanismkeepstrackofhowlong
theytooktomakethejourney.Knowingthatthespeedoflightis
aconstantvalue,wecanderivethe
totaldistancetraveledbasedonthetime.Becausethisdistanceincludesthepathfromlasertotarget
tolaser,wesimplydividethetotaldistanceby twotodeterminethetargetdistancefromthelaser.As
additionalpulsesaretransmittedandreceived,an
internalcalculationwilldetermineboththespeed
anddirectionthetargetismoving.
6.5 RETRIEVINGSHOTDATA(WHATSINASHOT?)
Noteveryshotofthelaserwillreturnthesamedata.Dependingonhowthelaserisconfigured,
differentdatawillbereturned.
Inthenormaloperationalmode(Figure6),eachsuccessful lasershotshouldreturnthefollowing
information:
Timeanddateoftheshot,
Speedcalculatedforthe
target(ifaspeedisdetected),
Unitsofmeasureforthespeed(mph,km/h,etc.),
Directionthetargetwasmoving,
Distancefromthelaseratwhichthetargetwascaptured,
Correspondingdistanceunitsofmeasure.
