Auger Control
Periodic adjustment to the auger control cable may be required
due to normal stretch and wear on the belt. Adjustment is
needed immediately if the augers:
Continue to turn with the auger control disengaged, ora.
During operation, augers seem to hesitate turning b.
while the engine maintains speed.
NOTE: Perform the following test before operating the snow
thrower for the first time and at the start of each winter season.
Check the adjustment of the auger control as follows:
When the auger control is released and in the disengaged 1.
“up” position, the cable should have very little slack, but
should NOT be tight.
In a well-ventilated area, start the snow thrower engine as 2.
instructed in the engine manual. Make sure the throttle is set
in the FAST position.
While standing in the operator’s position (behind the snow 3.
thrower) engage the auger.
Allow the auger to remain engaged for approximately 10 4.
seconds before releasing the auger control. Repeat this
several times.
With the engine running in the FAST position and the 5.
auger control in the disengaged “up” position, walk to the
front of the machine.
Confirm that the auger has completely stopped rotating 6.
and shows NO signs of motion.
NOTE: If the auger shows ANY signs of rotating, immediately
return to the operator’s position and shut off the engine. Wait for
all moving parts to stop before adjusting the auger control cable
as follows:
Loosen the rear hex bolt on the cable adjustment bracket. 7.
See Fig. 3-8.
Slide the cable adjustment bracket forward adding a slight 8.
amount of slack in the auger cable.
Retighten the rear hex bolt.9.
Start engine and verify auger control engages and 10.
disengages properly.
NOTE: If auger continues to rotate with the control
disengaged, shut off engine and readjust.
If during operation, augers seem to hesitate turning while 11.
the engine maintains speed, then the cable is too loose and
the bracket needs to be adjusted rearward, decreasing the
amount of slack to the auger cable. Follow the above steps
to adjust the cable adjustment bracket.
WARNING! Do not over-tighten the cable.
Overtightening may prevent the auger from
disengaging and compromise the safety of the snow
thrower.
