What to do if the main burner comes on with the gas knob when the remote wall switch is in the 'OFF' position on my Napoleon Indoor Fireplace?
    • T
      Tina Chang DDSSep 23, 2025
If the remote wall switch is in the 'OFF' position and the main burner of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace comes on when the gas knob is turned to the 'ON' position, the wall switch may be mounted upside down; try reversing it. Another possibility is that the remote wall switch or its wire is grounding; in this case, check for a short, repair the ground, or replace the wire. If none of these solutions work, the switch may need to be replaced.

What to do if Napoleon GDI-30N main burner goes out but pilot stays on?
    • D
Dr. David Simmons PhDAug 23, 2025
If the main burner of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace goes out but the pilot stays on, the pilot flame might not be large enough or not fully engulfing the thermopile. Try turning up the pilot flame. Another potential cause is a shorting thermopile; in this case, clean the thermopile connection to the valve and reconnect it. If the issue persists, consider replacing the thermopile or valve.

Why is carbon depositing on the glass of my Napoleon GDI-30N?
    • J
      James PenningtonAug 25, 2025
If carbon is being deposited on the glass, logs, or combustion chamber surfaces of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, it could be due to a blocked air shutter. Ensure the air shutter opening is free of any lint or obstructions. Another cause might be the flame impinging directly on the logs or combustion chamber; check that the logs are correctly positioned. You can also try opening the air shutter to increase the primary air. Additionally, verify the input rate by checking the manifold pressure and orifice size against the rating plate values. Ensure the door gasketing is intact and provides a tight seal, and check that both vent liners are free of holes and well-sealed at all joints. Lastly, confirm that the minimum rise per foot (meter) has been adhered to for any horizontal venting.

Why are the flames on my Napoleon GDI-30N Indoor Fireplace so aggressive?
    • M
      Megan OrtizAug 27, 2025
If the flames on your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace are very aggressive, ensure the door is tightly sealed. The mechanical means of securing the door should provide a tight seal. Also, check that the venting is properly sealed, as excessive venting action could be the cause.

How to troubleshoot Napoleon GDI-30N Indoor Fireplace over-fired or under-fired?
    • D
      David GordonAug 27, 2025
If your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace is over-fired or under-fired, check the pressure readings. Inlet pressure can be checked by turning screw (A) counter-clockwise 2 or 3 turns and then placing pressure gauge tubing over the test point. The gauge should read as described on the chart. Check with the main burner operating on ‘HI’. Outlet pressure can be checked the same way using screw (B). The gauge should read as described on the chart. Check that the main burner is operating on ‘HI’. After taking pressure readings, be sure to turn screws clockwise firmly to reseal, but do not over torque. Finally, leak test with a soap and water solution.

Why does a white/grey film form on my Napoleon GDI-30N glass?
    • S
      Shannon GomezSep 18, 2025
If a white or grey film forms on the glass, logs, or combustion chamber surfaces of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, it is likely due to sulphur from the fuel. Clean the glass with a recommended gas appliance glass cleaner. Do not clean the glass when it is hot. If deposits are not cleaned off regularly, the glass may become permanently marked.

Why is carbon depositing on the glass, logs, or combustion chamber of my Napoleon GDI-30N?
    • C
      cabreraelizabethSep 15, 2025
If carbon is being deposited on the glass, logs, or combustion chamber surfaces of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, start by checking if the air shutter is blocked by lint or other obstructions. Also, ensure that the logs are correctly positioned so the flame isn't directly hitting them or the combustion chamber. You can also try opening the air shutter to increase the primary air. Additionally, check the input rate, door gasketing, vent liners, and ensure the correct minimum rise per foot for any horizontal venting.

Why will the pilot not light on my Napoleon GDI-30N?
    • L
      Logan HansenSep 17, 2025
If the pilot of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace will not light, check if there is a spark at the pilot burner. You can test this by trying to light the pilot with a match. Also, check that the wire is connected to the push button igniter and that the push button igniter is tightened. If the wire insulation is broken or frayed, replace the wire. If the ceramic insulator is cracked or broken, replace the electrode. If none of these steps work, replace the push button ignitor.
