Testing Scenarios
Below are a few optional testing scenarios you can use to verify certain features of the switch.
Suggested Equipment for Test:
1. 2 ProSAFE Plus Switches – referring to as Switch A and B
(one switch will be able to test basic features and functionalities as well)
2. Trac generator (TG) – IXIA or SmartBits.
3. A PC/NB with ProSAFE Plus Utility.
Port Based VLAN
Test Network Topology
Same as Port Mirroring test
•Connect TG port 1 to Switch A port 1.
•Connect TG port 2 to Switch A port 2.
•Connect TG port 3 to Switch A port 3.
•Enable Basic Port based VLAN.
•Set port 1 to be a member of all VLANs. Set port 2’s VLAN Group to 2. Set port 3’s VLAN Group 3.
EXPECTED RESULT: Port 1 can communicate with port2 and port3; and port 2 can’t communicate with port 3.
802.1Q VLAN

Trace Generator -- IXIA or Smartbits
NB/PC with ProSAFE Plus Utility
1. TG sends untagged packets to switch and receive untagged packets from switch.
•Connect TG port 1 to Switch A port 1.
•Connect TG port 2 to Switch A port 2.
•Connect TG port 3 to Switch B port 1.
•Connect TG port 4 to Switch B port 2.
•Connect Switch A port 3 to Switch B port 3.
•Enable Advanced 802.1Q VLAN on both switches.
•Create 2 VLANs: VLAN 10 and 20 on both switches.
•Set port 1 to be a member of VLAN 10 with PVID equals to10 for both switches.
•Set port 2 to be a member of VLAN 20 with PVID equals to 20 for both switches.
