Why can't I take pictures or record movies with my Nikon Digital Camera?

  You might not be able to take pictures or record movies with your Nikon Digital Camera if the camera is in playback mode, the flash is charging while q is flashing, or the battery is exhausted. Press the c button, shutter-release button or b (e) button. When menus are displayed, press the d button. When the scene mode is Night portrait or Backlighting with HDR set to Off, raise the flash. Also, ensure a memory card with sufficient free space is inserted.

  Your Nikon Digital Camera battery may not charge for several reasons. Make sure all connections are secure. If connected to a computer, ensure that 'Charge by computer' is not set to 'Off' in the setup menu. Note that battery charging stops if the camera is turned off, or if the camera’s display language and date and time have not been set (or were reset after the camera’s clock battery was exhausted); in these cases, use the charging AC adapter. Also, charging may stop when the computer goes into sleep mode, or may not be possible depending on the computer's specifications, settings, and status.
