Glossary
access code
A number string which protects against unauthorised use of the
phone, SIM card or network service; also see PIN code, PUK code,
security code.
call divert
A network service which allows you to direct your incoming calls
to another phone number.
DTMF tones (DTMF = Dual Tone Multi-Frequency)
Tones sent from the phone to the network in order to control an-
swering machines and computerised telephony systems such as
bank-by-phone and voicemail.
home network
The network run by the operator whose SIM card is currently used
in the phone.
keypad lock
A feature which locks the phone keys to prevent accidental key-
presses from being made.
PIN code (PIN = Personal Identification Number)
A secret code for controlling the use of the SIM card. This code is
usually supplied with the SIM card.
PUK code (PUK = Personal Unblocking Key)
A secret code used to unblock the SIM card when it has been
blocked because of the use of an incorrect PIN code.
security code
A secret code for controlling the use of the phone. This code is usu-
ally supplied with the phone.
SIM card (SIM = Subscriber Identity Module)
A smart card needed to use your phone. Contains subscriber-relat-
ed information.
