Figure 11 License Key Acquisition Process
The use of pooled license files for the CLM and the automatic distribution from the
CLM to the target nodes provides a lightweight mechanism to unlock hardware
upgrades on the nodes.
To provide some protection against abuse, the license distribution mechanism
includes digital signatures that are tied to specific major releases of the SR OS.
When downloading a license file to a target 7750 SR or 7950 XRS node, the license
must contain a signature for the release, running on the node. The license file can
include signatures for multiple releases which allows for the installation of license
files to cover both the active release and a target upgrade release in advance of a
major ISSU or standard software upgrade procedure.
License files and sets of validated upgrades are maintained between the two CPMs
of a redundant system.

• The license key contains function and volume ASLs. The ASL supports the right to use (RTU) of a feature on the network function.
• A network pool license key is an aggregate of ASLs for a specific type of network function for the network and specific release version.
