Adjusting the color of a picture
The color of the subject differs depending on lighting conditions. For
instance, when daylight, the setting sun or tungsten lighting are reflected
on white paper, the shade of white produced will be slightly different for
each. By adjusting the white balance, you can achieve more natural-
looking colors.
AUTO The white balance is adjusted automatically for natural color, regardless
of the light source.
5 For natural colors under a clear sky.
3 For natural colors under a cloudy sky.
1 For natural colors under tungsten lighting.
w For natural colors under daylight fluorescent lighting. This type of lamp is
used mainly in homes.
x For shooting under a neutral white fluorescent lamp. This type of lamp is
generally used in desk lamps, etc.
y For shooting under a white fluorescent lamp. This type of lamp is generally
used in offices, etc.

1 Select a white balance setting,
and press Z.
TIPS
• You can select a white balance setting other than the actual light source, and
enjoy the different color tones on the monitor.
Note
• White balance may not be effective under some special light sources.
• When taking pictures with the white balance on a setting other than [AUTO],
play back the picture and check the colors on the monitor.
• When the flash is fired with a white balance setting other than [AUTO], colors
may appear different in the resulting picture from the colors you see on the
monitor.
