Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the DAIHEN "Welding Torch for Robot Coaxial Power Cable for Robot," specifically for the MTX-3531, MTXC-3531, MTXB-3531, MTXCB-3531, MTX-5031, MTXC-5031, MTXB-5031, MTXCB-5031, MTXW-5031, and MTXCW-5031 models. The manual provides comprehensive information on the device's specifications, usage, and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.

The primary function of these devices is to serve as welding torches for robotic applications, utilizing a coaxial power cable. They are designed for both CO2/MAG welding processes, with specific models optimized for different current capacities and cooling methods. The "shock sensor built-in type" indicates an integrated safety feature that likely detects impacts or abnormal forces on the torch, potentially preventing damage or ensuring proper operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual details various technical specifications across different models:

  • Welding Process: All listed models are designed for CO2/MAG welding.
  • Max. Operating Current / Rated Duty Cycle:
    • MTX-3531, MTXC-3531, MTXB-3531, MTXCB-3531: 350A (250A) with a 50% rated duty cycle.
    • MTX-5031, MTXC-5031, MTXB-5031, MTXCB-5031: 500A (300A) with a 50% rated duty cycle.
    • MTXW-5031, MTXCW-5031: 500A (350A) with a 70% rated duty cycle.
  • Wire Type: All models use solid wire, flux cored wire.
  • Applicable Wire Diameter:
    • MTX-3531, MTXC-3531, MTXB-3531, MTXCB-3531: φ0.8, φ0.9, φ1.0.
    • MTX-5031, MTXC-5031, MTXB-5031, MTXCB-5031, MTXW-5031, MTXCW-5031: φ1.0, φ1.2, φ1.4, φ1.6.
  • Cooling System:
    • MTX-3531, MTXC-3531, MTXB-3531, MTXCB-3531, MTX-5031, MTXC-5031, MTXB-5031, MTXCB-5031: Air cooling.
    • MTXW-5031, MTXCW-5031: Water cooling.
  • Nozzle Cleaning Function:
    • All air-cooled models: Air-blow.
    • All water-cooled models: Air-blow.
  • Shock Sensor: All models are equipped with a built-in shock sensor.
  • Weight:
    • MTX-3531 (straight): 1.4kg (3.08lb)
    • MTXC-3531 (curved): 1.5kg (3.3lb)
    • MTXB-3531 (air-blow straight): 1.45kg (3.19lb)
    • MTXCB-3531 (air-blow curved): 1.55kg (3.41lb)
    • MTX-5031 (straight): 1.5kg (3.3lb)
    • MTXC-5031 (curved): 1.6kg (3.52lb)
    • MTXB-5031 (air-blow straight): 1.65kg (3.63lb)
    • MTXCB-5031 (air-blow curved): 1.75kg (3.85lb)
    • MTXW-5031 (water-cooled straight): 1.6kg (3.52lb)
    • MTXCW-5031 (water-cooled curved): 1.7kg (3.74lb)

The duty cycle is explained in detail, with a 50% rated duty cycle meaning 5 minutes of welding followed by 5 minutes of suspension, and a 70% rated duty cycle meaning 7 minutes of welding followed by 3 minutes of suspension. For water-cooled models (MTXW-5031 and MTXCW-5031), continuous cooling water supply is essential to prevent overheating.

Usage Features:

The manual emphasizes safety as a paramount aspect of usage. It outlines "Notes on Safety" and "Important Safeguards" with specific warnings and cautions:

  • General Safety: Operators must thoroughly read the manual, be trained, and understand the product. Only qualified personnel should operate the equipment.
  • Electrical Safety: Do not touch live electrical parts. Ensure proper grounding and avoid working in wet conditions.
  • Arc Ray and Fume Safety: Wear appropriate eye, ear, and body protection against arc rays, spatters, slag, and noise. Use proper ventilation to avoid inhaling fumes and gases, which can be harmful.
  • Fire and Explosion Prevention: Do not weld near flammable materials or in areas where fire or explosion risks exist. Keep fire extinguishers nearby.
  • Mechanical Safety: Avoid touching heated workpieces and moving parts. Ensure the machine is securely fastened before operation.
  • Torch Adjustment: The manual provides detailed instructions for mounting and adjusting the welding torch, including mounting to Almega V-type and G-type manipulators. This involves adjusting components like the torch mounting bracket, hexagon socket head cap screws, and tip gauge to ensure proper alignment and reference points for precise welding.
  • Inching: The manual describes the "inching" function, which allows feeding the wire with a press of the INCH button, and warns against touching the tip during this operation due to the risk of injury from the wire.
  • Cooling Water (for water-cooled models): Ensure sufficient cooling water flow to prevent damage to the torch.
  • Cable Hose: Avoid excessive bending or placing heavy objects on the cable hoses to prevent damage.
  • Shock Sensor: The shock sensor is an integrated safety feature that detects impacts. If activated, it indicates a potential issue with the torch or robot movement, requiring attention to prevent damage or ensure proper operation.

Maintenance Features:

The manual provides guidance on maintaining the device to ensure longevity and safe operation:

  • Replacement Parts: If any parts are damaged, replace them with new ones for safety and quality. Orders for replacement parts should be placed through sales offices or agencies.
  • Disassembly: Do not disassemble the shock sensor, as this can lead to gas leaks and malfunctions.
  • Torch Tip Elements: Do not directly touch high-temperature parts like nozzles and electrodes. Allow them to cool off before handling.
  • Regular Inspections: Before and during operation, check for damaged cables, insufficient cooling water, and proper connections.
  • Cleaning: Ensure the nozzle cleaning function (air-blow) is working correctly.
  • Repair: Damaged parts should be repaired by qualified personnel. Do not perform work on an unstable foothold or with a foothold at a height of two meters or above.
  • Power OFF: Always turn off the power switch when not in use.

The manual also includes a list of principal safety standards that the product adheres to, such as ANSI, OSHA, AWS, NFPA, and CSA, underscoring the manufacturer's commitment to safety. Contact information for sales offices and agencies is provided for inquiries and service.
