Overview

This document describes the isysNet 24 VDC Analog Output Modules, Series A (PSSTACM12A, PSSTAVM12A), manufactured by Parker Hannifin Corporation's Pneumatic Division. These modules are designed for industrial automation applications, specifically for providing analog current or voltage outputs within an I/O configuration.

Function Description:

The PSSTACM12A and PSSTAVM12A are analog output modules that convert digital signals from a controller into analog current (PSSTACM12A) or analog voltage (PSSTAVM12A) outputs. They are part of the isysNet system, featuring a sealed IP67 housing, which means they do not require an additional enclosure for environmental protection, although other environmental requirements might necessitate one. The modules utilize M12-style I/O connectors for robust and sealed connections.

The PSSTACM12A module provides two channels of analog current output, configurable for 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA. The output is 0 mA until communication is established. The PSSTAVM12A module provides two channels of analog voltage output, configurable for 0-10V or ±10V. The output is 0V until communication is established.

These modules integrate into RSLogix 5000 I/O configurations for ControlNet (PSSCCNA or 1738-ACNR) or EtherNet/IP (PSSCENA or 1738-AENT) networks. They produce 2 bytes of input data (scanner Rx) for fault status and consume 4 bytes of output data (scanner Tx) for controlling the analog outputs.

Usage Features:

  • Mounting: The I/O base mounts on a wall or panel using #8 (M4) screws. The I/O module must be mounted on a grounded metal mounting plate or other conductive surface. The mounting base includes a ground lug connection for system grounding.
  • Module Installation: To install the analog output module, the keyswitch on the mounting base must be rotated clockwise until number 4 aligns with the notch. The module is then positioned vertically above the mounting base and pushed down until it engages the latching mechanism with a clicking sound. The module bridges two bases.
  • Module Removal: To remove, a flat blade screwdriver is inserted into the slot of the orange latching mechanism and pushed toward the I/O module to disengage the latch. The module will then lift off the base.
  • Wiring: The modules use M12-A and M12-B female connectors. Pin assignments are provided: Pin 1 for Output 0/1, Pin 2 for 24VDC, Pin 3 and 4 for Common, and Pin 5 for No Connect. Analog modules have earth grounded metal rings, which should be considered when choosing shielded cables and grounding techniques. All connectors and caps must be securely tightened to maintain IP67 requirements.
  • Communication: I/O messages are consumed (sent to) and produced (received from) by the modules, mapped into the processor's memory.
  • Indicators:
    • Module Status Indicator (MOD): Off (no power), Green (operating normally), Flashing Green (commissioning needed), Flashing Red (recoverable fault), Red (unrecoverable fault), Flashing Red/Green (self-test).
    • Network Status Indicator (NET): Off (not on line/not powered), Flashing Green (on line, no connections), Green (on line, connections established), Flashing Red (I/O connections timed-out), Red (critical link failure), Flashing Red/Green (communication faulted).
    • I/O Status Indicators: Off (no power), Solid Green (operating normally), Flashing Green (channel being calibrated), Flashing Red (Low or High Clamp for PSSTAVM12A, Open wire or no power for PSSTACM12A), Solid Red (Module in CAL mode for PSSTAVM12A, Not used for PSSTACM12A).

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting: The document provides a detailed table of indicator states (Module Status, Network Status, I/O Status) and their probable causes, aiding in quick diagnosis of operational issues.
  • Safety Guidelines: Emphasizes disconnecting electrical and air supplies before servicing, operating within specified conditions, using moisture-free medium if ambient temperature is below freezing, and ensuring installation/service is performed by knowledgeable personnel.
  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Prevention: Guidelines are provided to prevent damage from ESD, including touching grounded objects, wearing grounding wriststraps, avoiding contact with connectors/pins/circuit components, using static-safe workstations, and storing equipment in appropriate static-safe packaging.
  • EDS File Requirements: EDS files for the modules are available online at www.parker.com/pneu/isysnet, which are necessary for proper configuration in RSLogix 5000.
  • Calibration: The modules are factory calibrated. The I/O status indicators can show when a channel is being calibrated.
