Overview

This document describes the operation manual for Parker Hannifin's Proportional Pressure Valves, specifically the Series RE*T and R*V, which feature integrated electronics.

Function Description

These proportional pressure valves are designed to convert an electrical command signal into a proportional spool stroke, providing highly dynamic control over hydraulic pressure. The integrated electronic driver handles all necessary functions for optimal valve operation. This includes digital circuit design, high dynamic constant current solenoid control, and a differential input stage with various command signal options. The valves also incorporate a two-quadrant ramp function, MIN adjustment for deadband compensation, and MAX adjustment to match the command signal span to the valve's operating range. Optional reference outputs (10V) are available for potentiometer supply. The system uses a standard central connection and is compatible with relevant European EMC standards. A comfortable interface program facilitates parameterization.

The valve's operation relies on a command signal (voltage or current) that is proportional to the desired solenoid current. For voltage inputs (0-10V), a reference output of +10V is available. For current inputs, options include 0-20mA and 4-20mA. The 4-20mA option includes a "0 mA" condition for breakdown information, where the actuator drive switches off if the input signal line is interrupted or falls below 3.6 mA, and switches on when it reaches 3.8 mA, following NAMUR NE43 specifications.

Usage Features

Mounting and Installation:

  • Valves can be mounted in any direction.
  • Mounting surface unevenness of 0.01 mm/100 mm and surface finish of 6.3 µm are tolerable.
  • It is crucial to keep the mounting surface and work environment clean.
  • Protection plates must be removed from the valve mounting surface before installation.
  • Proper positioning of valve ports and O-rings is essential.
  • Mounting bolts should be property class ISO 4762-12.9 and tightened crisscross to specified torque values (refer to the provided table for bolt kits and torque values).
  • The central connector assembly and parameterizing cable must be ordered separately.

Electrical Connection:

  • A single common cable connects the valve to the integrated electronic driver via a 6 + PE female connector (EN 175201-804).
  • A female connector with metal housing (Parker part nr. 5004072) is required; plastic models may cause EMC issues.
  • The cable should be a flexible control cable with 7 conductors, an overall braid shield, a minimum cross-section of AWG16/1.0 mm², and an outer dimension of 8-12 mm.
  • The backshell nut of the cable gland should be tightened to 4 Nm, and the cap nut to approximately 4 Nm after attaching the female connector.
  • The valve's mounting surface must be tied to the earth-grounded machine frame. The earth ground wire from the valve connecting cable and the cable shield should be tied to the protective earth terminal within the control unit.
  • The supply voltage must be 18-30 VDC (ripple < 5% eff.) and free of inductive surges. A stabilized power supply with overcurrent limiting should not be used due to the valve's inrush current.
  • Each valve requires a separate pre-fuse (2.5 A medium lag).
  • The command input signal needs to be filtered and free of inductive surges and modulations.

Parameterization (ProPxD Software):

  • The ProPxD software allows for comfortable parameter setting via an RS232C connection (USB-RS232C adapter needed if no serial interface).
  • The software can be downloaded from www.parker.com/isde or www.parker.com/propxd.
  • Parameters can be viewed, modified, and saved as complete sets.
  • The software operates in "basic mode" for normal startup and "expert mode" for special applications. Expert mode requires a password ("parker").
  • Key parameters include ramp acceleration (S5) and deceleration (S6), MAX (P3) and MIN (P7) channel adjustments, polarity command (P11), cable break detection (E19), MIN operating threshold (E25), dither amplitude (P5), and dither frequency (P6).

Maintenance Features

Storage:

  • For temporary storage, valves must be protected against contamination, atmospheric exposure, and mechanical damage.
  • Factory-tested valves with hydraulic oil are protected against corrosion, provided storage conditions are met:
    • Constant humidity < 60% and temperature < 25°C for 12 months.
    • Varying humidity and temperature < 35°C for 6 months.
  • Outdoor storage or storage in sea/tropical climates will lead to corrosion and potential valve disablement.

Troubleshooting:

  • Troubleshooting should follow a systematic approach.
  • If a sluggish spool is suspected, the valve should be flushed with clean pressure fluid.
  • Troubleshooting in hydraulic systems requires qualified personnel with detailed knowledge of the system's function and construction.
  • A table of common malfunctions (e.g., no function, oscillation, pressure issues, drifting) and their possible reasons (e.g., defective pump, overloaded drive, contaminated valve, incorrect fluid, low oil level, filter issues, supply voltage problems, command signal problems, dither signal issues, connector failure, cable issues) is provided with corresponding corrective actions.

Spare Parts and Accessories:

  • Female connector 6+PE (ordering code 5004072) and bolt kits are available as accessories.
  • Seal kits (NBR and FPM) are available for various valve types (RE06M*T, R4V, R6V, RE*E*T, R5V). Specific ordering codes are provided for each valve type and seal material. For R4V valves, a combination of seal kits for the main valve and the proportional section P2 is required for a complete seal kit.
