6.4.

Servicing

Prior

to

the

First

Engine

starting

First

engine

starting

means

starting

a

new

engine,

an

engine

after

its

installation

into

the

airframe

following

prior

heavy

maintenance,

or

an

engine

which

was

out

of

operation

for

a

longer

period,

for

the

first

time.

Prior

to

the

first

engine

starting

it

is

necessary:

-

to

remove

one

spark

plug

from

each

cylinder

and

'Co

inject

20

ccm

of

oil

heated

to

50

deg.

C

into

each

cylinder.

Piston

of

the

corresponding

cylinder

has

to

be

in

its

bottom

dead

centre

so

that

all

the

cylinder

working

surface

may

be

wetted

by

oil

-

to

bleed

and

fill

thoroughly

the

hose

supplying

oil

from

the

tank

to

the

engine

-

to

turn

the

engine

manually,

with

the

ignition

magnet.os

switched

OFF,

till

the

oil

pressure

gauge

indicates

cil

pressure

-

to

screw

in

clean

spark

plugs

and

connect

ignition

cables

-

to

check

engine

,control

for

correct

functioning

and

its

stops

for

correct

adjustment

-

to

start

the

engine

and

carry

out

an

engine

test

run

-

to

check

oil

system

installation

for

leakage,

the

oil

tank

for

oil

quantity

and

the

engine

valves

for

corn~ct

clearance

after

the

first

engine

test

run.

6.5.

Inspection

After

the

First

25

Hours

of

Operation

It

is

necessary

to

operate

the

engine

within

the

first

25

hours

of

operation

with

extreme

care

and

caution.

The

engine

should

be

warmed

up

slowly

after

starting,

only

short

test

runs

should

be

carried

out

an

full

throuttle

operation

in

low

altitudes

should

be

limited

to

periods

as

short

as

possible.

Carry

out

carefully

the

following

work

during

the

first

25

hrs

inspection

in

to

that

shown

change'and

for

chips

and

shavings

-

examination

of

the

spark

plug

condition

and

appearance

oil

consumption

measurement

and

comparison

of

the

result

with

manufacturer's

data.
