Assembly
The
Maintenance
organizations
and
Personell
without
special
Authorization
may
carry
out
the
minor
maintenance
of
that
part
of
the
Ignition
Magneto,
covered
by
the
detachable
cover
of
the
distributor,
The
cover
and
the
distributor
space
may
be
cleaned,
the
cover,
the
central
brush,
the
contact
finger
and
contacts
of
the
distributor
checked
for
cracks,
wear
and
damage.
The
damaged
parts
may
be
replaced,
the
moderately
worn/burned
contacts
may
be
grinded-in
and
adjusted
on
the
determined
clearance.
The
Major
Maintenance
of
the
Ignition
Magnetos
is
limited
to
the
Engine
Manufacturer
or
specially
authorised
Maintenance
Organization.
Magneto
is
removed
from
the
engine
after
disconnection
of
the
ignition
cables
and
releasing
the
fastening
sleeve.
The
nut,
fastening
the
magneto
drive
insert,
is
released
and
the
whole
assembly
of
the
magneto
including
the
insert
and
bevel
gear
is
removed
and
haded-over
for
the
necessary
maintenece.
The
required
play
in
the
-bevel
gear
drive
is
determined
by
the
distance
between
the
bevel
gear
and
the
insert
and
must
be
adjusted
by
the
magneto
maintenance
organization.
The
Magneto
Reassembly
and
Timing
Adjustment
Adjust
the
crankshaft
to
the
upper
compression
stroke
of
the
cylinder
No 1
(i.e.
the
"valve
shear"
on
the
No 4
cylinder).
The
divider
finger
is
adjusted
to
the
ignition
point
of
the
cylinder
No 1
according
to
the
marking
on
the
divider
cover.
Check
the
clearance
in
the
magnetic
drive
gearing
as
follows.
Insert
the
magnetos
without
the
sealing
in
such
a
way
so
that
the
line
connecting
the
magneto
axis
and
the
IIshort-circuiting"
terminal
includes
at
the
ignition
spark
point
an
angle
within
20-30
degrees
with
the
logitudinal
axis
of
the
engine.
In
this
position,
tighten
slightly
the
nuts
fastening
the
engine.
If
the
drive
gearings
of
the
magnetos
bear
on
each
other
and
there
is
a
gap
between
the
bearing
surface
of
the
magneto
drive
insert
and
the
bearing
surface
the
crankcase
measure
its
width
using
a
feeler
gauge.
.
Depending
on
the
gap
width,
select
1,2
or
3
sealings
so
that
the
total
width
of
the
sealing
(one
sealing
0.3
mm)
would
be
by
0.2
bigger
as
minimum.
Remove
the
magneto,
put
in
the
determined
number
of
sealings
and
mount
it
back
in
the
same
position.
When
assembled,
tighten
it.
NOTE:
·In
case
of
SCINTILLA
magnetos
the
one
provided
with
the
impulse
coupling
(the
longer
one)
is
installed
on
the
engine
right
side.
