This document describes the Patriot Lighting Outdoor Sensor Light, model E4145 (SKU 356-4285 and 356-4286). It is an outdoor lighting fixture equipped with a motion sensor for automatic operation.
Function Description:
The Patriot Lighting Outdoor Sensor Light is designed to provide illumination outdoors, featuring a motion sensor that automatically turns the light on when motion is detected and off after a set delay. It offers various operating modes including TEST, OFF/AUTO, PC/Manual Override, and a "LOW LEVEL" brightness setting for continuous dim illumination. The fixture is designed for wall mounting and is suitable for outdoor use.
Important Technical Specifications:

- Power Supply: 120 VAC, 60 Hz
- Bulb Type: Type A, Max. 60W (not included)
- Detection Range: 180 degrees
- Detection Distance: Up to 40 feet at 77°F
- Shut-off Delay: Adjustable from 5 seconds to 3 minutes
- Mounting: Wall-mounted to an outlet box
Usage Features:
The fixture offers several customizable features and operating modes:
- Operating Modes:
- TEST Mode (daytime and nighttime operation): The light turns to high-level brightness when motion is detected and stays on as long as motion continues. It reverts to low-level brightness 5 seconds after motion ceases.
- OFF Mode (nighttime operation only): The light turns to high-level brightness when motion is detected and stays on as long as motion continues. It then turns off completely after the predetermined time (5-180 seconds).
- AUTO Mode (nighttime operation only): At dusk, the light turns to low-level brightness (0-50%). When motion is detected, it turns to high-level brightness. It then returns to low-level brightness after motion ceases for the set delay (5-180 seconds). The light turns off automatically at dawn.
- PC Mode (nighttime operation only): The light turns to high-level brightness (full brightness) at dusk and turns off at dawn.
- Manual Override Mode (nighttime operation only): To shift to manual override mode, turn the wall switch to "OFF" or "AUTO" mode. Turn the wall switch "OFF," then turn it "ON" within 3 seconds. The light will remain on all night long. To shift back to the "OFF" or "AUTO" mode, turn the wall switch "OFF" and then turn it "ON" within 3 seconds again.
- Adjustable Knob: A knob on the back of the sensor head allows adjustment of the "TIME" (shut-off delay), "LOW LEVEL" brightness, and "SENS" (sensitivity).
- Shut-off Delay: Adjustable from 5 seconds to 3 minutes. Turning the "TIME" knob clockwise increases the delay, counterclockwise decreases it.
- Low-Level Brightness: Adjustable from 0-50% by rotating the "LOW LEVEL" knob.
- Sensitivity: Adjustable by rotating the "SENS" knob.
- Installation: The fixture is designed to be mounted straight on the wall for optimal detection. Installing it at least 6 feet above the ground provides a detection distance of up to 40 feet.
- Wiring: Requires connection to hot (black), neutral (white), and ground wires. Wire connectors are provided.
- Caulking: Silicone caulking compound should be used around the back plate where it meets the wall surface to prevent water seepage.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Gently clean the sensor lens with a soft cloth every 1 or 2 months to ensure maximum sensitivity.
- Bulb Replacement: The fixture uses a Type A bulb with a maximum wattage of 60W.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the light not working, staying on over 5 seconds after motion ceases, staying on full brightness after 3 minutes, or staying on after dawn.
- Warranty: A five-year limited warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. If a product or part is defective, it can be returned to the nearest PATRIOT LIGHTING retailer for replacement or repair.
- Spare Parts: Specific spare parts (Cross Bar, Wire Connector, Ball Nut, Rubber Pad, Mounting Screw, Headless Screw, Lock Nut, Assembly Kit, Glass Shade) are available for re-order by calling the toll-free customer service number.
- WARNING: Always turn off electricity at the main fuse box or circuit breaker before installation or servicing.
- Electrical Safety: Be careful not to damage or cut the wire insulation during fixture installation. Do not permit wires to contact any sharp edges. Ensure proper grounding.
- Installation: All electrical connections must be in agreement with local codes, ordinances, or the national electric code (NEC). Consult your municipal building department to learn about local codes, permits, and/or inspections.
- Risk of Fire: Most dwellings built before 1985 have supply wiring rated for 140°F/60°C. Consult a qualified electrician if unsure.
- Grounding: This fixture is not intended for use with an electrical system that does not provide a means for equipment grounding. Never use a fixture in a two-wire system that is not grounded. If your lighting system has no grounding means, do not attempt to install this fixture. Contact a qualified, licensed electrician for information.
- Placement: Do not mount the fixture near heat sources (air conditioner, vent, furnace exhaust) or in a direction facing any reflecting object or other light source to reduce nuisances.
