PRECAUTIONS
WARNING:
Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality
without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
CAUTION:
Filter must be protected against freezing, which can cause cracking of the

CAUTION:
The rubber O-ring provides the watertight seal between the cap and the
bottom of the housing. It is important that the O-ring be properly seated in the
groove below the threads of the housing or a water leak could occur.
CAUTION:
Because of the product’s limited service life and to prevent costly repairs or
possible water damage, we strongly recommend that the bottom of all plastic
housings be replaced every 10 years for opaque. If the bottom of your housing
has been in use for longer than this period, it should be replaced immediately.
Date the bottom of any new or replacement housing to indicate the next
recommended replacement date.

Overview

The Pentair ChlorPlus™ Protect 10 Water Filtration System is a whole-house water filtration device designed to reduce specific contaminants from your water supply. It is certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 53 for the reduction of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). This system is intended for cold water use only and should not be installed where it will be exposed to direct sunlight.

Function Description:

The primary function of this system is to filter water, reducing the concentration of PFOA and PFOS to levels below the permissible limit. The system operates by directing water through a ChlorPlus Protect 10 cartridge housed within a 10-inch filter housing. The filtration process removes these contaminants, providing cleaner water for household use. The system is designed for installation on standard 1/2" or 3/4" main water lines, compatible with galvanized, copper, or plastic pipes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Contaminant Reduction: Certified for the reduction of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS).
    • Influent Challenge Concentration: 0.0015 mg/L ± 10%
    • Max. Permissible Product Water Concentration: 0.00007 mg/L
    • Average Reduction: 98.20%
  • Pressure Range: 30-125 psi (2.1-8.6 bar)
  • Flow Rate: 1 gpm (3.78 Lpm)
  • Capacity: 1,000 gallons (3,785 L) or 12 months, whichever comes first.
  • Temperature Range: 40-100°F (4.4-37.7°C)
  • Filter Housing: 10-inch
  • Cartridge: ChlorPlus Protect 10 cartridge (Part No. 655226-43)

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The system comes with all necessary parts for installation, including the filter housing, ChlorPlus Protect 10 cartridge, filter housing cap, O-ring, screw kit, mounting bracket kit, and housing wrench. Tools required for installation (not included) include appropriate fittings and pipe, plumber's tape, file, pencil, Phillips head screwdriver, adjustable wrenches, and pipe cutters or hacksaw.
    • Installation involves turning off the cold water supply, releasing pressure from pipes, and then installing the mounting bracket (if used).
    • The filter assembly is connected to the main water line using brass compression nuts and ferrules. For 1/2" pipes, rubber ferrules are substituted for brass.
    • The cap opening marked "IN" must face the incoming water supply.
    • A red pressure-relief button on top of the cap allows for the release of trapped air during initial setup and after cartridge replacement.
    • After installation, the filter cartridge should be flushed for five minutes initially, and then again for ten minutes before regular use.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • WARNING: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
    • CAUTION: The filter must be protected against freezing, which can cause cracking of the filter and water leakage.
    • CAUTION: The rubber O-ring provides the watertight seal between the cap and the bottom of the housing. It is crucial that the O-ring is properly seated in the groove below the threads of the housing to prevent leaks.
    • CAUTION: Due to the product's limited service life, the bottom of all plastic housings should be replaced every 10 years for opaque housings. If a housing has been in use longer than this period, it should be replaced immediately. It is recommended to date the bottom of any new or replacement housing to indicate the next recommended replacement date.
    • If water pipes are used to ground electrical systems, appliances, or phones, a jumper wire must be installed. Consult a qualified electrician for questions about your home's electrical system.
  • Troubleshooting Leaks:
    • Between Cap and Bottom of Filter Housing: Turn off water supply, press the pressure-relief button, remove the housing bottom, clean and lubricate the O-ring, and reassemble. Do not overtighten.
    • On Inlet/Outlet Connections: Turn off water supply, tighten brass fittings snugly with a wrench. If leaks persist, contact Pentair Technical Support.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cartridge Replacement: The filter cartridge has a limited service life of 1,000 gallons or 12 months, or sooner if changes in taste, odor, color, and/or flow of filtered water are noticed.
    • To replace the cartridge, turn off the cold water supply and open the nearest faucet to release pressure.
    • Depress the red pressure-relief button.
    • Remove the bottom of the housing by turning it clockwise.
    • Locate and remove the large O-ring, clean it, and set it aside.
    • Discard the used cartridge. Rinse the housing bottom and cap, and clean them with a solution of two tablespoons of bleach and water, scrubbing with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly.
    • Lubricate the O-ring with clean silicone grease and reinsert it into the groove, ensuring it is seated level.
    • Insert the new cartridge over the standpipe in the bottom of the housing.
    • Screw the bottom of the housing onto the cap and hand-tighten (DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN), ensuring the cap standpipe slips into the cartridge.
    • Slowly open the cold water supply 1/4-turn counterclockwise to allow the filter to fill with water.
    • Depress the red pressure-relief button (if present) to release trapped air.
    • Flush the cartridge for five minutes before use, and again for ten minutes before using water.
    • Check for leaks before leaving the installation.
  • Post-Vacation Use: After prolonged periods of non-use (e.g., during a vacation), it is recommended to flush the system thoroughly by letting water run for five to six minutes before using.
  • Replacement Parts: Pentair offers replacement parts including the pressure-relief button kit (151039), black cap (154101), O-ring (151120), blue housing (153019), ChlorPlus Protect 10 cartridge (655226-43), UB-1KIT mounting bracket kit (151011), and SW-2 housing wrench (150295-06). Replacement parts can be obtained from a Pentair dealer or by contacting Pentair Technical Support.
