TUTORIAL #2
27FEB15 RTM DO NOT DUPLICATE For Simulator Use Only
ADDENDUM – WEATHER/WINDS USE
This addendum shows you how to use Active Sky Next or a similar
weather addon to create winds aloft and temperature data that we’ll input
into the FMC so that it can take into account the weather’s effect on our
flight.
Preliminary weather setup:
Note – Active Sky Next is recommended for use as of SP1d – the setup
methodology is exactly the same as was shown for AS2012 when this
tutorial was originally written in 2012. AS2012 is still shown in the
screenshots here.
This section explains how to set up Active Sky for this flight. I’m showing
the procedure for AS because it’s what I personally use – other weather
addons including earlier versions of AS should have similar functions.
The first step involves the use of an addon flight planner and route export
tool. This is not critical, but it allows us to easily export an P3D flightplan
containing our exact route waypoints, which we can then import into AS
for weather interpolation. If you don’t have a flight planning utility, skip this
subsection and go to the next one, which shows an alternate method that
only requires AS itself.
There are several available flight planning utilities including PFPX and
FSBuild 2. These are generic instructions that give you the basic
information that needs to be fed into the planning utility. You will have to
consult the utility’s documentation for exact instructions on how to export
the flightplan file to the simulator.
Start your flight planning utility.
Get the following route into the utility:
LUNI1S.EDUPO.UZ738.MISGO.UZ741.GMH.UL603.TESGA.UZ729.BOMBI.
T104.XERUM.UM867.BAVAX.Z106.MANAL.M736.TULSI.TULS3A
Enter FL390 for your cruise altitude
Export an P3D .fxml flight plan for this route.
You now have an P3D flightplan with this route sitting in your My
Documents/Flight Simulator X files folder called EHAM-LOWI.fxml that we
can load into AS for processing.
