8. Apply Loctite
®

(Red) to the outer circumference
of the new upper bearing race. Slide the new upper
bearing onto the steering shaft and press it into the
pivot tube by hand.
NOTE
Use care not to allow any of the Loctite
®
to get in the
bearing.
Bearings will be seated in the pivot housing upon
tightening the steering wheel nut in step 14.
9. Reinstall the upper washers and spacers in the order
in which they were removed.
10.Install the steering wheel and hand tighten the nut.

11. Reinstall the steering shaft assembly in the vehicle.
Install the lower portion of the steering shaft onto the
steering gear box assembly (see Figure 5-16). Torque
the lower pinch bolt to specification.
TORQUE
Steering Shaft to Rack Pinch Bolt:
48 ft-lb (65 Nm)
12.Install the two fasteners

that retain the pivot tube.
Torque fasteners to specification.
TORQUE
Pivot Tube Bolts:
40 ft-lb (54 Nm)
13.Install the fastener

retaining the upper portion of
the steering wheel tilt shock to the pivot tube. Torque
fastener to specification.
TORQUE
Tilt Shock Bolt:
7 ft-lb (10 Nm)
14.Ensure front wheels are facing straight. Remove
steering wheel and align as needed. Apply Loctite
®

. Torque steering nut to specification.
TORQUE
Steering Wheel Nut:
65 ft-lbs (88 Nm)
15.Install steering wheel cap and test steering operation.
