Overview

The Poly Voyager Surround 80 UC is a Bluetooth headset with touch control, designed for both call and media management. It offers a range of features for enhanced audio experience, connectivity, and user convenience.

Function Description

The headset primarily functions as a Bluetooth audio device, allowing users to connect to mobile devices and PCs for calls and media streaming. It features active noise canceling (ANC) and Transparency Mode to manage ambient sound, ensuring clear audio and awareness of surroundings. The device utilizes touch controls on the right earcup for intuitive operation, including volume adjustment, call handling, and media playback. A high-fidelity Bluetooth USB adapter is included for seamless connection to computers, providing optimal softphone functionality and sound quality.

Usage Features

Connectivity and Pairing:

  • Mobile Device Pairing: To pair with a mobile device, the user slides and holds the Power switch away from the off position until "pairing" is heard and the headset LEDs flash blue and white. Bluetooth needs to be activated on the phone, and "Poly VSurround 80" selected from the list of available devices. The headset can pair with up to 8 devices but maintains only 2 simultaneous connections, including the Bluetooth adapter.
  • PC Connection: The headset comes pre-paired with its Bluetooth USB adapter. Users simply turn on the headset and insert the USB adapter into their laptop or PC. The USB adapter's LED flashes and then turns solid to indicate a successful connection, with a "PC connected" voice alert.
  • USB Adapter Configuration for Streaming Media: For Windows, users navigate to Start menu > Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab, select Poly BT700 as the Default Device, and click OK. To pause music during calls, they go to Start menu > Control Panel > Sound > Communications tab and select the desired parameter. For Mac, users go to System Preferences > Sound and select Poly BT700 on both Input and Output tabs.
  • Re-pairing BT700 USB Adapter: If the adapter is disconnected or purchased separately, it can be re-paired using the Poly Lens Desktop App. The user inserts the adapter, puts the audio device in pair mode, launches Poly Lens Desktop App, navigates to Poly BT700, and selects "Pair new device." The adapter flashes red and blue, and pairing is successful when "pairing successful" and "PC connected" are heard, and the adapter LED is solid.
  • Corded Mode (Audio over USB): The headset can be used in corded mode if the battery is depleted or a wired connection is preferred. Users disconnect the Bluetooth USB adapter from their computer (if connected), connect the headset directly to the computer with one of the provided USB-C to USB-A or USB-C to USB-C cables, and power off the headset for density-friendly corded mode.

Basic Controls:

  • Power On/Off: Slide the Power switch to power the headset on or off.
  • Adjust Volume: Swipe up on the right earcup to increase volume, and swipe down to decrease it. Each swipe changes the volume by one level.
  • Play or Pause Audio: Tap the center of the right earcup to play or pause audio.
  • Track Forward/Backward: Swipe forward on the right earcup to play the next track, and swipe backward to play the previous track.
  • ANC and Transparency Mode: Tap the Custom button with two fingers for 2 seconds to toggle between ANC and Transparency Mode. Swipe up/down on the right earcup to adjust the Transparency Mode level when active.
  • Voice Assistant (Smartphone Feature): Press and hold the center of the right earcup for 2 seconds, or tap the Custom button with two fingers for 2 seconds, to activate the smartphone's default voice assistant (Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana).
  • Mute/Unmute: During an active call, press the Mute button to mute or unmute the headset.
  • Call Control: Tap the center of the right earcup to answer a call, and press to end a call.
  • Hold Call: Press and hold the Mute button for 2 seconds to hold a call. To resume, hold the Mute button for 2 seconds again.
  • Switch Between Calls (Flash): Press the headset Call button for 2 seconds to switch between softphone calls.
  • Answer a Second Call: Tap the center of the right earcup to end the current call, then tap again to answer the new call.
  • Redial Last Outgoing Call (Smartphone Feature): Tap the Custom button with two fingers for 2 seconds to redial the last outgoing mobile call.
  • Launch Microsoft Teams (Teams Model Only): Tap the Teams button on the headset to quickly open and use the Microsoft Teams desktop app. When not on a call, tapping the Teams button views the app on the computer. When the connected USB adapter LED pulses purple, tapping the Teams button views Teams notifications.

Smart Sensors:

The headset features smart sensors that respond to wearing status.

  • Mobile/Softphone Call: Putting on the headset answers the call; taking it off keeps the call in the headset.
  • Music/Media: Putting on the headset resumes music/media (if playing prior to removal); taking it off pauses music/media (if playing).
  • Mute (Activated in Poly Lens App): Putting on the headset unmutes if on an active call; taking it off mutes if on an active call.

Maintenance Features

Charging:

The headset provides up to 24 hours of listening time. It is charged using the USB-C cable. The headset LEDs flash during charging and turn off when fully charged, which takes approximately 1 hour. The USB-C cable can be plugged into a computer or a wall charger's USB port.

Battery Status Check:

Users can check the headset battery status in several ways:

  • With the headset inactive, slide and release the Power switch away from the off position to hear a voice alert or observe the headset LEDs.
  • Power on the headset and listen to the voice alert.
  • Tap the Custom button with two fingers for 2 seconds and listen to the voice alert (requires Status Check to be assigned to the Custom button in Poly Lens App).
  • View the headset battery level in the Poly Lens App.

Software and Firmware Updates:

To ensure optimal performance and access new features, users should keep their firmware and software up-to-date. Updates are managed through the Poly Lens App, which can be downloaded from poly.com/lens, the App Store, or Google Play. The Poly Lens App also allows users to customize headset behavior through advanced settings and options, including configuring call control for softphones, changing headset language, enabling features, managing notifications and alerts, and scheduling health and wellness reminders.

Customization:

The Custom button feature can be configured in the Poly Lens App. Options include:

  • ANC/Transparency mode (default)
  • Check device status
  • Mobile calls only: Redial
  • Mobile calls only: Launch default voice assistant (Siri, Google Assistant)

The ANC and Transparency Mode settings can also be customized in the Poly Lens App, offering Adaptive (default), Standard, and Off options for ANC, and Environment (default), Speech, and Off options for Transparency Mode.
