Wi-Fi Connectivity Setup

Overview

The Horizon VVX-450 is a sophisticated IP phone designed to enhance communication and productivity in a business environment. It offers a comprehensive suite of telephony features, allowing users to manage calls efficiently, participate in conferences, and access voicemail, all while providing a clear and intuitive user experience. The phone is pre-configured for ease of setup, requiring only an internet connection and power, either through Power over Ethernet (PoE) or an AC power supply.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Horizon VVX-450 is to facilitate voice communication over an IP network. It supports a maximum of three active, incoming, and held audio calls simultaneously, with the capability to manage numerous other incoming or held calls across all lines. This allows for flexible call handling, ensuring that important calls are not missed. The device also supports audio conference calls, enabling users to connect with multiple contacts for group discussions. For enhanced connectivity, the VVX-450 can be enabled with Wi-Fi functionality by inserting a USB Wi-Fi dongle into the rear port, allowing for wireless network access.

Usage Features:

  • Call Management:
    • Placing Calls: Users can initiate calls by typing a phone number, selecting "New Call," pressing a line key, or picking up the handset and pressing the speakerphone or headset button. Recent contacts can also be selected for quick dialing.
    • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered by picking up the handset, pressing the speakerphone or headset button, or selecting "Answer" on the screen.
    • Holding/Resuming Calls: Any active call can be placed on hold, with a hold icon and a flashing red LED on the line key indicating its status. Held calls can be resumed from the Calls screen or by selecting "Resume."
    • Ending Calls: Active calls can be ended by placing the handset on the cradle, pressing "End Call," or highlighting the call in the Calls screen and selecting "End Call." Held calls must be resumed before they can be ended.
    • Transferring Calls: The phone supports both blind and consultative transfers. Blind transfers send the call directly to another line, while consultative transfers allow the user to speak with the other party before completing the transfer. Users can choose a default transfer type or select a non-default type during a call. Transfers can be canceled if the contact does not answer or if the user wishes to continue speaking with the contact.
    • Managing Multiple Calls: The Lines screen displays calls for each line, automatically resuming the first held call when a line with a held call is selected. The Calls screen provides a comprehensive view of all active and held calls, allowing users to hold, resume, end, transfer, or conference calls.
  • Conference Calls:
    • Initiating Conferences: A conference call can be initiated with up to two contacts. The process involves calling a contact, selecting "Conference" when they answer, then dialing another contact or selecting one from the directory/call lists, and finally selecting "Conference" again when the second contact answers.
    • Joining Calls: An active call and a held call can be joined to create a conference by selecting the "Join" soft key. If multiple calls are held, the user can select a specific held call to join.
    • Ending/Holding/Resuming Conferences: Conference calls can be ended, placed on hold (affecting all participants), and resumed, similar to regular calls.
  • Audio Control:
    • Mute/Unmute: The mute key allows users to mute their microphone during calls or conferences, preventing other parties from hearing them, while still allowing the user to hear others. Pressing the key again unmutes the microphone.
    • Volume Control: Dedicated volume keys adjust the volume of the handset, headset, speaker, and ringer.
  • Do Not Disturb (DND):
    • Enabling DND: DND can be enabled to automatically reject incoming calls and send them directly to voicemail. All rejected calls are logged in the Recent Calls list. On shared lines, DND disables ringing but still displays a visual notification, allowing the user to answer or ignore the call.
  • Call Forwarding:
    • Forwarding Incoming Calls: Incoming calls can be forwarded to a specific contact or number.
    • Forwarding All Calls: All incoming calls can be forwarded by navigating to settings and selecting a forwarding type. The number of rings before forwarding can also be configured for the "No Answer" option.
    • Disabling Forwarding: Call forwarding can be disabled through the settings menu.
  • Voicemail:
    • Listening to Voicemail: Users can access and manage voicemail messages by navigating to "Messages," selecting "Message Center," choosing the relevant line (if multiple lines exist), and then selecting "Connect" to follow the prompts.
  • Contact Directory:
    • Viewing/Adding Contacts: The Contact Directory allows users to view and add contacts.
    • Rejecting Calls from a Contact: Specific contacts can be set to automatically reject calls and send them directly to voicemail by editing their contact information and enabling "Auto Reject."
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity:
    • Enabling Wi-Fi: After inserting a USB Wi-Fi dongle, Wi-Fi functionality can be enabled through the "Main Menu" by navigating to "Wi-Fi," selecting "On," and then rebooting the phone.
    • Connecting to Networks: The phone will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Users can select a network, enter security credentials, and connect. A visual indicator confirms Wi-Fi connectivity.

Maintenance Features:

The Horizon VVX-450 is designed for robust performance with minimal user maintenance. Its pre-configured nature simplifies initial setup. The user guide provides clear instructions for navigating menus and performing various call actions, ensuring that users can troubleshoot common issues independently. The phone's hardware features, such as the reversible tab for securing the handset, contribute to its durability and ease of use in different setups. The message waiting indicator (flashing red) provides a clear visual cue for new messages, prompting users to check their voicemail. The security slot on the back allows for physical securing of the phone to a desktop, preventing theft. The color display with backlight ensures readability of menu options and data.
