Hydraulic Steering
The basic hydraulic steering system for a single engine boat contains a steering wheel, a hydraulic
helm pump, a hydraulic steering cylinder, and hydraulic hoses.
Operaon
When turning the steering wheel, the helm pump forces hydraulic uid through hoses to and from the
steering cylinder which is connected to the ller arm on the engine. The cylinder moves the ller arm
to either port or starboard, depending upon the direcon the steering wheel is turned.
Filling and Maintenance
A hydraulic steering system rarely needs to be relled aer the system is bled. However, if you ever
need to add uid to the system, refer to the steering manufacturer’s manual for complete

If adjustment is necessary:
1. Loosen the bolt on the trim tab.
2. If the boat turns easier to the right, move the trailing edge of the trim tab to the right. If the
boat turns easier to the le, move the trailing edge of the trim tab to the le.
3. Re-ghten the bolt and check the steering. Repeat if necessary.
