If your Radio Shack Scanner is totally inoperative, first check the power source. Ensure the batteries are good or that the AC or DC adapter is properly connected. If using an adapter, make sure the barrel plug is fully inserted into the POWER jack. Recharge or replace batteries if necessary.

Why won't my Radio Shack Scanner scan even though it's on?

      Shawn AndersonAug 9, 2025
If your Radio Shack Scanner is on but not scanning, there are several possible causes. First, the SQUELCH might not be adjusted correctly; try adjusting it clockwise. Second, you may have only one or no channels stored; store frequencies into more than one channel. Finally, the channels may be locked out; remove the lockout.

If your Radio Shack Scanner locks on frequencies with unclear transmissions while in scan mode, it might be due to "Birdies". Avoid programming frequencies that are known to cause this issue, or only listen to them manually.
