Overview

The Renogy MT-1 Tracer Meter is a remote digital display designed for use with 10Amp or 20Amp Duo Battery Charge Controllers. It serves as a self-diagnostics meter, providing real-time monitoring and display of the solar system's status information, including any error indications. The meter features a backlit LCD display and large, easily navigable buttons for user interaction.

Function Description:

The MT-1 Tracer Meter is primarily used to monitor various parameters of a solar charging system. It displays both solar voltage and battery voltage, as well as charging current and load current. The meter also tracks Amp-Hour and Watt-Hour accumulation, providing a comprehensive overview of energy generation and consumption. It can display information for two batteries, making it suitable for systems with dual battery banks. The meter includes a self-test function that cycles through all screens upon power-on to ensure proper operation. Users can navigate through four main menus: PV Solar Information, Battery 1 Information, Battery 2 Information, and Temperature/Time Information.

    • Cable Length: 10 meters
    • Faceplate Dimensions: 95 x 95mm (3.74 x 3.74in)
    • Wall Frame Dimensions: 110 x 110mm (4.33 x 4.33in)
  • Temperature Parameters:
    • Operation Temperature: -40°F to 140°F
    • LCD Operation Temperature: -14°F to 104°F
    • Humidity: 0-100%

Usage Features:

  • Display: The backlit LCD display shows various icons and data units. Key icons include:
    • Solar Icon: Indicates solar power activity.
    • Battery Icon(s): Shows battery connection and charge level (each bar represents 20% capacity). Flashes if the battery is not connected.
    • Remote Temperature Sensor Icon (optional): Appears if a remote temperature sensor is connected to the charge controller.
    • Local Temperature Sensor Icon: Indicates the current room temperature.
    • Setting Icon: Present when the user is modifying parameters.
    • Error Indicator: Signals improper connection, tracer error, or short circuiting of the battery or solar panels.
    • Data Repeat Icon: Indicates automatic cycling through screens.
    • Backlight On Icon: Shows when the backlight is active.
    • Self-Test Indicator: Appears during the power-on self-test sequence.
  • Navigation: The meter uses four keys: NEXT, (←), (→), and SET.
    • NEXT: Cycles through the main menus (PV Solar Information, Battery 1 Information, Battery 2 Information, Temperature/Time Information).
    • (←) and (→): Used to cycle within the four menus to display more information or adjust parameters during setting.
    • SET: Activates parameter modification mode and saves settings.
  • Parameter Setting: Users can modify parameters such as Temperature Units (Celsius/Fahrenheit), Backlight Timer (On, 30s, 20s, 10s, 5s, Off), Backlight Brightness (Full, Half), Data Repeat Option (Auto, Off), and clock (hours and minutes).
  • Test Mode: Can be manually activated by pressing NEXT + (←). It cycles through various indicators including temperature readings, battery voltages, solar panel readings, time, units, and icons, ensuring all functions are operational.
  • Battery Level Flashing: The battery icon bars flash to indicate the battery's capacity within a 20% increment (e.g., first bar flashing means 1-19% capacity).
  • Mounting: The MT-1 can be flush mounted on a wall or flat surface using the provided wall mounting frame.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues:
    • No Display: Verify the charge controller is powered on and connected to the MT-1. The MT-1 is powered by the charge controller.
    • Dim LCD Display: Check if the meter is in half-brightness mode, ensure system battery voltage is at least 8V, and verify the temperature is within the LCD's operating range.
    • Turns On, But Shows No Data: Suggests potential damage to the MT-1 or its cable; contact the manufacturer for replacement.
    • Display Does Not Match Manual: Advised to check the Renogy website for the latest documentation, as product revisions occur.
    • Buttons Do Not Work: Recommend disconnecting the MT-1, cleaning the faceplate to remove residue, and reconnecting.
  • Error Indicator: A red LED on the tracer or the "!" symbol on the display indicates an error. Possible causes include:
    • Disconnected, over-voltage, or open-circuit battery.
    • Malfunctioning remote temperature sensor probe.
    • Overcharging current.
    • Short-circuited solar PV.
    • Note: Both batteries must be connected to the charge controller to avoid a default error.
  • Telecommunication Port Issues: If graphical symbols display abnormally, press any key to resume normal activity. If the problem persists, disconnect and reconnect the port. Errors can occur if the connection is not properly secured or if the cable is too long. Normal updates occur every 20 seconds.
  • Battery Capacity AH: Accumulates charging data every minute. Data may not be accurate if the charge current is too small. Minimum accumulation is 1AH (1 amp charging for 1 hour).

The MT-1 Tracer Meter is designed for ease of use and provides critical information to ensure the efficient and safe operation of a dual-battery solar charging system.
