Step 4: Knock on each sensor once with the hammer. To knock on the sensors should not
require any force and should be done with an equal intensity. The sensors will indicate
a detected signal by flashing red diodes. After each measurement please wait until an
acoustic signal appears, then proceed with the next measurement.
You can check the proper function of the device while measuring:
The sensor sending the signal (The one on which is knocked) will show a white
or pink light.
The sensors receiving a signal will show a blue light. All sensors that do not
receive any signal will show a red light.
After every knock one of the following reports will appear in the status line at the
bottom of the program window:
OK -> Measurement correct
No Start sensor detected -> sensor recognition possibly failed or
disturbance due to wind or traffic
Two Start Sensors detected please check cable connections -> Please
check the correct connection of the cables.
No signal detected -> Measurement did not contain any valid values.
(disturbance due to wind)
If the software failed to record a correct signal a deep acoustic signal will appear.
Repeat the measurement in this case.
Step 5: Check the Runtime
table, if a signal has
arrived at every
sensor.
In case of the
measurement shown
in the table below,
you should check the
correct fit of the
sensor pins 1 and 4,
because no or not
many signals have
arrived at these two
sensors. If necessary,
drive the pin a little further into the wood.
If the tree measured is very large in diameter or is hollow inside it might be possible
that no signals reach the sensors on the opposite side of the tree. This can be regulated
by knocking slightly (!) harder on the sensors then usual. If this does not bring any
changes to the result, this is not due to a malfunction of the device but reflects the
actual condition of the tree.
Step 6: If all pins are attached to the wood correctly, you can proceed with the actual
measurement. We recommend knocking at least 8 to 10 times per sensor to increase
the precision of the results.
IMPORTANT: Since the sensors react very sensitive on mechanical impulses, please
make sure disturbing signals during measurements. Do not touch
sensors and cables during the measurement session.
