4. MIDI DATA ROUTING
Even when the SK-50 is connected to a computer using a computer cable, the data which is
communicated through this cable can be thought of as being the same as MIDI data. When this
unit is connected to a computer or other MIDI-equipped device, the flow of data is routed as
explained in the following.
(1) When Connected to a Computer
When this unit is connected to a computer (when the COMPUTER Switch is at any position
other than MIDI), the data which is produced as a result of playing the keyboard (*1) is sent out
through the computer cable to the computer. If the “Soft Thru” feature (*2) provided by the
computers software is set to “ON,” whatever data that has been sent out will be routed back to
the SK-50 through the computer cable, and will cause its sound generator to produce those
sounds.
So, whenever you instruct your computers software to play music, those instructions are
conveyed through the COMPUTER cable to the SK-50, which plays whatever notes it has been
requested to play.
At the same time, all the performance information that the SK-50 is receiving at its COMPUTER
interface will be sent out from its MIDI OUT connector. Additionally, any MIDI messages that
have arrived at the MIDI IN connector will be sent out through the computer cable.
