<RX> If a Tone is selected for the Part when these messages are received, the change to the
new Tone is made. If a Drum Set is selected for the Part, the change to the new Drum Set is
made when the Program Change message is received.
When a Tone is selected for the Part
As shown below, every Tone available on the SK-50 is assigned a numbered location which is
referenced by first specifying the Bank Select number from 0 to 127, then a Program Change
number from 1 to 128.
As you can see from the chart, the Capital Tones (Tones which can be selected using the UP and
DOWN, and 1—8 NUMBER buttons on the SK-50’s panel) are located in the No. 0 Bank Select
row. The Variation Tones (Tones which can be selected after the VARIATION button is pressed)
have been assigned to other, upper locations on the chart (in the Banks, or rows, other than 0
which are numbered from 1—127).
When wishing to use an external device to specify a Tone, you should first refer to the Tone
Chart at the end of this manual for the Bank Select and Program Change numbers of the desired
Tone. Control Change No. 0 and the Program Change must be sent as a pair. The complete
combination of data must be sent in the order shown below:
1. Control No. 0 (Bank Select): Number of Variation being selected
2. Control No. 32: 0
3. Program Number: Number of Tone being selected
* The change to a new Tone will be made after the Program Change message has been
received. A Tone change cannot be accomplished if only the Bank Select message is received.
* Even when wishing to select a Capital Tone, you should first send the Bank Select message.
* No sound will be produced if you have selected a Variation number where no Tone is
assigned.
* The arrangement used for the Capital Tones on the SK-50 complies with the organization used
by the 128 sounds defined for the GM System.
