How to fix product leaking through the exhaust of my Sandpiper Control Unit?
    • T
      trevinoandrewAug 16, 2025
If you notice product leaking through the exhaust of your Sandpiper Control Unit, it's likely due to diaphragm issues. This could be caused by diaphragm failure, or loose diaphragm plates, in which case you should replace the diaphragms and ensure the diaphragm plates are tight. Another potential cause is the diaphragm being stretched around the center hole or bolt holes. Check for excessive inlet pressure or air pressure and consult the Chemical Resistance Chart for compatibility with products, cleaners, temperature limitations, and lubrication.

Why does my Sandpiper Control Unit pump cycle only once?
    • D
      Dr. Tyler GrahamAug 27, 2025
Your Sandpiper Control Unit pump might cycle only once due to a few reasons. It could be deadheading (system pressure meets or exceeds air supply pressure); in this case, increase the inlet air pressure to the pump, noting that the pump is designed for a 1:1 pressure ratio at zero flow (this does not apply to high pressure 2:1 units). Alternatively, the air valve or intermediate gaskets may be installed incorrectly. Ensure you install the gaskets with holes properly aligned. Finally, a bent or missing actuator plunger could be the cause; remove the pilot valve and inspect the actuator plungers.

Why won't my Sandpiper Control Unit pump operate or cycle?
    • J
      Jesse NovakNov 1, 2025
Your Sandpiper Control Unit pump may not operate or cycle due to several reasons. It might be over-lubricated—set the lubricator on the lowest possible setting or remove it, as these units are designed for lube-free operation. Check for a lack of air (insufficient line size, PSI, or CFM) by verifying the air line size and length, and the compressor capacity. Also, examine the air distribution system by disassembling and inspecting the main air distribution valve, pilot valve, and pilot valve actuators. Ensure the discharge line isn't blocked or the manifolds clogged; check for closed discharge line valves and clean the discharge manifolds/piping. Increase the inlet air pressure to the pump if it's deadheading (system pressure meets or exceeds air supply pressure). Remove, clean, or de-ice ...

What to do if Sandpiper Control Unit pump cycles but won't prime or has no flow?
    • C
      christinescottNov 5, 2025
If your Sandpiper Control Unit pump cycles but doesn't prime or has no flow, consider these possibilities: Check for cavitation on the suction side and move the pump closer to the product. Inspect for obstructions in the check valve; disassemble the wet end of the pump and manually dislodge any obstructions in the check valve pocket. Clean around the valve ball cage and valve seat area, and replace the valve ball or valve seat if damaged, potentially using a heavier valve ball material. Ensure valve balls aren't missing (pushed into the chamber or manifold) due to wear on the valve ball or valve seat, or worn fingers in the valve ball cage. Check if valve balls or seats are damaged or attacked by the product, consulting the Chemical Resistance Guide for compatibility. Inspect check valves ...

Why is the diaphragm failing prematurely in my Sandpiper Control Unit?
    • S
      sbrownNov 10, 2025
Premature diaphragm failure in your Sandpiper Control Unit could stem from several factors. Cavitation might be occurring, so enlarge the pipe diameter on the suction side of the pump. Excessive flooded suction pressure could also be the cause; move the pump closer to the product, raise it, or place it on top of the tank to reduce inlet pressure. Consider installing a back pressure device or adding an accumulation tank or pulsation dampener. Misapplication due to chemical or physical incompatibility is another possibility, so consult the Chemical Resistance Chart for compatibility with products, cleaners, temperature limitations, and lubrication. Lastly, incorrect, incorrectly installed, or worn diaphragm plates could be the issue. Check the Operating Manual to ensure the correct part and ...

What causes unbalanced cycling in a Sandpiper Control Unit and how to resolve it?
    • A
      Amanda DillonNov 20, 2025
Unbalanced cycling in your Sandpiper Control Unit can be attributed to several factors. If there's excessive suction lift (exceeding 20’ of liquid), filling the chambers with liquid will prime the pump in most cases. An undersized suction line could be the issue, so ensure it meets or exceeds pump connections. If pumped fluid is found in the air exhaust muffler, disassemble the pump chambers and inspect for diaphragm rupture or a loose diaphragm plate assembly. Check for suction side air leakage or air in the product by visually inspecting all suction-side gaskets and pipe connections. An obstructed check valve could also be the cause; disassemble the wet end of the pump and manually dislodge any obstruction in the check valve pocket. Inspect check valves and seats for wear and proper sett...
