ABOUT SATO CORPORATION
SATO Corporation was established in Japan in 1940 to manufacture and sell packaging
machinery. In 1962, SATO invented the world’s fi rst hand-held labeler, launching operations
as an international supplier of labeling machinery.
In 1979, SATO introduced the world’s fi rst thermal transfer barcode printer, Model 2311.
SATO has continued to be at the forefront of thermal printing technologies. Barcodes have
proven to be a medium for inputting information that satisfi es all operational requirements,
including high reading speed, incomparable accuracy, and low cost. Barcodes have gone
into widespread use in a variety of business sectors. Recognizing this, SATO Corporation

of RFID-capable printers, leading the way for the next round of product identifi cation
developments.
