5.2.4 Fastening the pipe system
Fasten the pipes with plastic clamps. Use suitable dowels and screws.
Ensure there is a sufficiently large gap from the plastic clamps to the aspirating
holes; approximate value 100mm.
Leave enough space for the pipes to expand as the temperature varies.
Mount the first plastic clamp at least 1m away from the aspirating smoke detector.
This will allow the pipe to be disconnected from the aspirating smoke detector
easily for cleaning and maintenance.

5.2.5 Drilling aspirating holes
The software 'FXS2056 ASD Asyst‑Tool V3' calculates the diameters of the
aspirating holes.
The individual aspirating holes may have different diameters.
w The pipe system has been mounted.
w The positions and diameters of the aspirating holes have been defined.
w The diameters of the holes in the end caps have been defined.
1. Drill the aspirating holes at right angles into the pipe from the bottom.
– Low speed, sharpened drill
2. Deburr the holes slightly if necessary, but do not countersink.
3. Stick labels on concentrically to identify the aspirating holes.

4. Drill an aspirating hole into every end cap.
– Exception: End caps on upright stand pipes do not have any holes.
5. Blow out the pipe system and remove any shavings.
a The pipe system can be connected to the aspirating smoke detector now.
If the calculation states that an aspirating hole must be drilled into a fitting,
proceed as follows:
Do not drill into the fitting.
Drill the aspirating hole after the fitting in the direction of the airflow. Shift the
aspirating hole by no more than 100mm from the calculated position.
