The Siemens SSB161.05UT is an electromotoric actuator designed for use with pressure-independent zone valves, small globe valves, and third-party valves in various HVAC applications. It is particularly suitable for chilled ceiling, VAV (Variable Air Volume), and fan coil unit systems.
Function Description:
The actuator operates on an AC/DC 24 V supply voltage and receives a DC 0-10 V positioning signal. This signal dictates the valve's stroke, which is then transmitted to the valve stem. The valve opens or closes proportionally to the positioning signal. At 0 V, the actuator stem is retracted, ensuring the normally closed valve is fully closed. In the event of a power outage, the actuator maintains its current position. A key feature is its self-calibration capability, which automatically adjusts to the valve's stroke upon power application. This process involves the actuator moving from a fully retracted to a fully extended position and then to the setpoint. Correct calibration requires a valve stroke greater than 1.2 mm; if the stroke is less, calibration will fail. In case of failure, the actuator attempts recalibration after 10 seconds. After three failed attempts, the actuator stem remains in the extended position, closing the valves, and the LED indicator changes to "stays red." The actuator also supports manual override, allowing the stem position to be adjusted using a 3-mm Allen wrench. This mode can be entered and exited by pressing and holding a button for at least three seconds. During manual operation, the actuator ignores positioning signals from the controller. Upon exiting manual mode, the actuator performs a self-calibration.
